ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Montana State University Billings' volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match at Alaska-Anchorage in three sets Saturday, 25-22, 25-15, 25-8.
The Seawolves (8-6, 2-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) polished off a sweep of the opening weekend of conference play with the victory. UAA finished with a .437 attack percentage against MSU Billings, a new program record for highest in a GNAC match and best for a Seawolf team since hitting .448 against St. Cloud State on Aug. 25, 2000. It also marked the first time a Yellowjacket opponent over .400 since Seattle Pacific did on Nov. 13, 2010.
Julia Mackey led Alaska-Anchorage with 13 kills and a .650 attack percentage. Katelynn Zanders added 12 terminations with a .550 percentage. Siobhan Johansen had a match-high 24 assist total, while Quinn Barker led all players with 21 digs.
Alaska-Anchorage had a 44-30 edge in kills, along with a 7-3 total block advantage. The Seawolves controlled the tempo in a match featured seven ties and two lead changes. The third set had no ties or lead changes, and UAA hit .500 and went 8-for-8 in sideouts.
Montana State Billings (2-8, 0-2) was led by
Chelsey Walter's nine kills.
Sydney Oberstein had nine digs.
Kyndal Williams dished out 20 assists.
The Yellowjackets welcome No. 13 Western Washington (7-1, 0-0) in the home opener Thursday at 7 p.m. The Vikings will be playing their first conference match of the season.
