MSUB Falls to No. 18 UAF as Yellowjackets Close 2025 Season

FAIRBANKS, Alas. — The Montana State University Billings volleyball team (2–22, 0–18 GNAC) closed out its 2025 season Saturday evening at Alaska Airlines Court, falling 3–0 to No. 18 University of Alaska Fairbanks (23–5, 14–4).

The victory secured UAF a share of the GNAC regular-season title, joining Alaska Anchorage, Central Washington, and Simon Fraser as co-champions.

On senior night in front of a lively home crowd, the Nanooks opened the match with an 8–3 lead. MSUB responded with a 6–2 surge powered by two kills from Allie Dorman and another from Tehani Moniz, pulling within a point. After a brief exchange of side outs, Fairbanks broke things open with seven unanswered points to go up 18–10. The Yellowjackets countered with a 5–2 run led by Moniz, but UAF closed the set with three straight points to claim the opener, 25–18.

The second set began with a 3–0 UAF lead before MSUB answered with a 5–2 run featuring service aces from Avarey Stuff and Avarie Gutierrez. The teams traded points to an 8–8 tie, but the Nanooks again created separation—this time with a 7–1 run to take a 15–9 advantage. After a service error gave MSUB its 10th point, UAF rattled off seven consecutive points to extend its lead to 22–10. The Yellowjackets added a few late points, but Fairbanks secured the set comfortably, 25–12.

UAF carried its momentum into the third frame, racing out to a 10–1 start before Dorman broke the run with a kill. MSUB battled back with key swings from Kenzie Allen and Addison Holcomb, trimming the Nanooks' lead to 18–10. The Yellowjackets then ignited a 6–1 run to come within three and threaten a comeback. However, UAF responded in kind with a matching 6–1 run to seal the set, 25–17 to complete the sweep.
