BILLINGS, Mont. –The Montana State University Billings' volleyball team welcomes cross town rival Rocky Mountain College for a special match Saturday, but not because of its city bragging rights for the next year. Both teams will be playing for a special cause in Alterowitz Gymnasium.
The national movement of Think Pink will be taking place at the match. It's a breast cancer awareness night unique to volleyball. Matches across the country at all levels join the cause in October. It is also the second meeting between MSUB and Rocky. Rocky swept MSUB their first meeting at Rocky in an exhibition earlier in the fall so MSUB will be looking for some revenge and bragging rights.
"Our players always get excited to play for the Think Pink night," MSUB volleyball head coach
Lisa Axel said. "It is a great way for us to raise money for a great cause. There will be pledge forms for fans to fill out to donate money for every dig MSUB gets during the match. We are hoping to get a huge crowd to see some very good volleyball and we are hoping to get the cross town rivalry back between MSUB and Rocky."
MSU Billings volleyball is working with the EVA Project that is run through St. Vincent Healthcare. The EVA Project provides free mammograms to women over the age of 40 who are uninsured and in need of their yearly screening. The mammograms are provided at the Yellowstone Breast Center and on the Mobile Digital Mammography Coach. The Coach travels to rural areas that do not have the abilities to provide mammograms.
During Saturday's match there will be a raffle with items donated by the EVA Project and half of the proceeds from the 50/50 tickets sold at the match will go to the EVA Project. During the match, breast health facts will also be announced.
Pink shirts and raffle items are being sold by EVA, and will be sold at the match as well. Student Health Services will be giving out free "Think Pink" towels to the first 200 people through the door. Tuesday's match begins at 7 P.M. with live stats and video at MSUBSPORTS.COM
