BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings volleyball team came out firing on all cylinders, but were unable to overcome 25
th-ranked Seattle Pacific's brutal assault in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Saturday night. The Yellwojackets concluded their 2011 campaign with a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-19, 25-16) to the Falcons on Senior night, but battled hard to the bitter end in an attempt to send their seniors off with a strong effort.
The Yellowjackets conclude the season with an overall record of 11-16 (5-13 GNAC) which is an improvement from last season. The Falcons are now 21-6 (15-3 GNAC) heading into the post-season.
“We really wanted to send a message and send our seniors off with a win tonight, but we came up short,” said head coach Steve Smith. “I can't say enough about what Brittney, Melissa and Brooke have meant to our program. We came out strong and fired up there in the first set, but some mistakes down the stretch kept us from capitalizing.”
Prior to the match, MSUB recognized seniors
Brittney Keele,
Brooke Tolman and
Melissa Porter for their contributions both on and off the court to the Yellowjacket volleyball program.
The Yellowjackets came out strong in the first set, racing out to an early 9-4 lead that they would be able to hold until SPU tied the set up at 18-all. From there, the two would battle hard, but the Falcons would prevail 25-23.
The final two sets would see the Yellowjackets unable to clip into SPU's lead as MSUB dropped the final two sets 25-19 and 25-16.
Tolman had the most prolific night of the three graduating players as she concluded the night with her 13
th double-double of the season en route to breaking into the top-10 for assists in a single season as she recorded 33 assists to go along with 16 digs. After just two seasons she will graduate from the program fifth all-time in program history with 1,772 assists in her career.

Monica Grimsrud and
Taylor Adams led the 'Jacket attack with 10 kills each. Porter also added two block assists to her career total that leaves her sixth all-time in school history in both block assists (203) and total blocks (263).
SPU was led in their attack by Lindsey Wodrich and Paige Hoffman with 14 and 10 kills respectively as the Falcons hit .244 as a team compared to the Yellowjackets' .120.
