BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings volleyball team ended their four-match home-stand with a record of 1-3 including going 0-2 last week. The Yellowjackets are preparing for a three-match road swing with a current season mark of 9-10 overall and 3-7 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
MSUB's pair of GNAC matches last week included a 2-3 loss Central Washington (11-8, 5-6 GNAC) on Thursday night and a 1-3 loss Saturday to Northwest Nazarene (11-5, 8-3 GNAC).
The Yellowjackets are looking at an uphill battle this week as they are 1-5 on the road so far this season.
Freshman
Monica Grimsrud registered 17 kills in the four-set loss to the Crusaders on Saturday night bringing her season total to 260 terminations for the year with a hitting percentage of .212. Grimsrud is currently 83
rd in the nation for kills per set at 3.47.
Brooke Tolman had her 10
th double-double of the year Saturday night, setting up 44 assists and corralling in 16 digs. She is 63
rd in the nation with 9.77 assists per set.
MSUB will first travel to Monmouth, Ore. on Thursday, Oct. 20 to take on Western Oregon University. The Wolves are currently 8-7 overall, 7-4 in conference action which includes a 2-3 loss to the Yellowjackets on Sept. 24 in Billings. As a team, WOU is currently hitting .207 and is on a two-match winning streak at home.
The Yellowjackets will then travel up to Lacey, Wash. on Saturday, Oct. 22 to take on the Saints of Saint Martin's University. The Saints have struggled this season with a hitting percentage of .122 and are currently 4-13 and hold a 3-8 mark in league play. The Yellowjackets edge out a 3-2 victory over SMU on Sept. 22 at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
MSUB will close out their three-match road trek with a rare Monday night showdown in Seattle, Wash. against Seattle Pacific University on Oct. 24. The Falcons are 14-5 and 8-2 in GNAC this season, seated near the top of the conference standings. It will be a very tough road-match for the Yellowjackets as the Falcons are hitting .215 while holding their opponents to .156.
