Yellowjackets Fall at No. 17 Seattle Pacific, 3-0

SEATTLE – The No. 17 Seattle Pacific volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-12, 25-22) over visiting Montana State Billings Monday night.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 1-12 on the year and 1-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while SPU remained unbeaten improving to 13-0 and 5-0 in conference play.

 

“They are a very good team, really solid in all positions,” MSUB head coach Steve Smith said.  “We came out a little flat, but we changed up the lineup Nicole Davey and Kayla Neumiller came in and energized the team.  We came out in game three as a totally different team.”

 

MSUB was led by Jennifer Boe who led with six kills and recorded six digs.  Brooke Tolman led the tam with 15 assists, while Adrienne Kelso led the team with seven digs.  As a team, the Jackets struggled hitting as they hit a season-low .012 with 19 kills and 18 errors. 

 

SPU was led by 14 kills from Sarah Risser, while Shelby Swanson led the way with 35 assists and Lindsay Wodrich tallied 13 digs.  SPU hit .299 with 39 kills and 13 errors on the evening.

 

The Falcons dominated the first two sets, but after the intermission, the Yellowajckets came out fighting after being down 7-2 to open the set.  MSUB took the lead at 17-16 on a kill from Boe.  MSUB then held a 20-18 lead, but a timeout by SPU sparked the Falcons who ended the match on a 7-2 run.

 

“I was really happy in how we continue to battle and we are moving in a positive direction and the team recognizes it,” Smith said.   “We continue to see positive things and they are happing more and more and we are waiting for it to click on a consistent basis.”

 

The Yellowjackets return home for three matches as they host Alaska Fairbanks and Alaska Anchorage this Thursday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in Alterowitz Gymnasium and then will host cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College Mon., Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. to close out the home stand.
