The women's team was led by sophomore Whitney Mickelsen (Aurora, UT, North Sevier HS), who re-joined the Yellowjackets this week, finishing in 43rd overall and covering the 3.1 mile course in 18:52.
Katie Thiel (Powell, WY, Powell HS) was the second Jacket across the line in 51st with a 19:16. Following Thiel was Sarah Jackson (Bozeman, MT, Manhattan Christian HS) in 59th (19:30), Mary Owen (Hammond, MT, Broadus HS) in 63rd (19:37) and Mykel Ler (Sidney, MT, Sidney HS) in 64th (19:38).
The sixth and seventh runners for the Yellowjackets were Melanie Bock (East Helena, MT, Helena HS) with a time of 20:07 and Keri Clump (Wasilla, AK, Wasilla HS) with a 20:51.
The individual race was won by the University of Montana's Kara DeWalt in a time of 16:47. She finished eight seconds ahead of teammate Katrina Drennan (16:55).
The team race was won by the University of Montana with a total of 31 points, 15 points ahead of second place, Weber State. Following Weber State were Utah State, Idaho State, Utah, Montana State, Carroll College, MSUB, Rocky Mountain College, South Dakota Mines, Great Falls and Westminister.
On the men's side, Daniel Lombardi (Deer Lodge, MT, Deer Lodge HS) was the first Yellowjacket across the line in 40th with a 27:37. Tyson Vanderby (Manhattan, MT, Manhattan HS) followed in 52nd with a 27:59 and Brian Potter (Manhattan, MT, Montana State University) finished third for MSUB with a 28:14 in 60th.
The fourth through seventh spots for the Yellowjackets were Taylor Canfield (Manhattan, MT, Manhattan HS) in 66th (28:30), Chase Robinson (Colstrip, MT, Colstrip HS) in 70th (28:39), Ryan Blomback (Belgrade, MT, Manhattan HS) in 80th (29:09) and Hunter Bossler (Helena, MT, Helena HS) in 84th (29:30).
The men's race was won by Patrick Casey of Montana State, covering the five mile course in a time of 25:01. He was followed by Brian McKenna of Utah State (25:05) and Lynn Reynolds of Montana (25:12).
The team race was won by the host, Montana State, with 30 total points. The first six runners for the Bobcats finished in the top ten. MSU was followed by Utah State, Weber State, Idaho State, Montana, Great Falls, Rocky Mountain College, MSUB, Carroll, South Dakota Mines and Westminister.
The Yellowjackets return to action next Friday, Sept. 24, at the Dickinson State Invitational in Dickinson, N.D. The meet begins at 4 p.m. local time.
