MEDORA, N.D. – The Montana State University Billings men's and women's cross country teams continued their regular seasons on in Medora at the Blue Hawk Invite hosted by Dickinson State University.
The meet saw Yellowjackets from both programs put together impressive performances, with the women running a 6k and the men running an 8k. Highlighting the mee, MSUB women's team would finish in second place overall with a score of 47 points. Meanwhile the men's team would finish with a team score of 104, taking fifth place.
For the Yellowjacket women,
Cecily Eagleton would be the first runner to cross the finish line, finishing in fifth place with a time of 23:29.0. It would be not only Eagleton's highest overall finish in any meet as a Yellowjacket, but would crush her previous PR time 16.4 seconds. Behind Eagleton,
Sarah Eichmann would continue her strong start to her freshman year by running a time of 23:41.2 in her first collegiate 6k, finishing in ninth place for her first top ten finish.
Behind them, two more Yellowjacket freshmen would finish just outside the top ten, with
Micah Strong and
Ally Coey finishing in 11
th and 12
th respectively. Strong would finish with a time of 24:04.8, while Coey would finish just seconds behind her with a mark of 24:08.0. Rounding out the Yellowjackets point earners would be
Toree Manning, with the senior finishing in 24:38.9 to achieve a new PR.
Chloe Shennum would also PR, finishing one spot behind Manning in 16
th with a time of 24:41.5.
The MSUB women would have five additional finishers in the race, with
Gracyn Rock coming 22
nd with a time of 24:57.7,
Gabi Becker finishing 26
th with a time of 25:18.2,
Kaelyn Sangray taking 30
th with a time of 25:33.2,
Angela Russo in 32
nd with a time of 25:55.5, and
Emma Weaver taking 36
th with a time of 27:36.3. Becker and Weaver would each set PRs, while the other three competed in their first career collegiate 6k's.
For MSUB's men,
Will Hyatt would finish as the group's top finisher once more, coming in tenth with a time of 26:49.8. His mark would also set a new PR for the junior, who took a top ten finish for the first time in his career. Following him,
Bruce Reed would take 21
st overall, completing his first college 8k with a time of 28:10.4. Fellow freshman
John Achter would follow him across the finish line shortly after, taking 25
th with a mark of 28:31.0. MSUB's top five finishers would be rounded out by
Caleb Burton, who ran a time of 29:10.6, and
Lennon Davis, whose time of 29:30.2 placed him in 39
th. MSUB's final runner competing would be
Hunter Bailey, whose took 49
th with a time of 31:18.1.
THE BUZZ: Eagleton and Reed were named as the Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
