ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Montana State Billings women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (14-25, 15-25, 25-22, 7-25) Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Central Washington Thursday evening. With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 2-17 on the year and 2-8 in conference play, while CWU improved to 8-7 on the year and 6-4 in league play.
MSUB was led by seven kills from senior Jennifer Boe, while junior Melissa Porter chipped in six kills. Junior Brooke Tolman led the way with 20 assists. Boe and freshman Adrienne Kelso led the way with 13 digs each.
As a team, the Jackets hit -.017 for the match with 26 kills and 28 errors. MSUB had 24 assists on the evening with 48 digs and seven total blocks.
CWU was led by 16 kills from Kady Try, while Carlee Marble tallied 30 assists and Brandie Vea added 16 digs. The Wildcats hit .213 for the match with 46 kills and 20 errors. They had 41 assists and 61 digs on the night.
The Wildcats opened the match with a 25-15 win and broke open the set with a 15-5 run after it was tied 10-10. Set two saw the Wildcats race out to a 12-2 lead and went on for a 25-14 win and put the Jackets in a 2-0 hole at intermission.
The third set saw the Jackets show some life and it was a back-and-forth affair neither team led by more than three points. MSUB broke a 16-16 tie with a Tolman kill and followed with an ace by Kelso for an 18-16 lead and a Central Washington timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Yellowjackets kept the Wildcats at bay the rest of the set and led 24-19 before CWU made things interesting scoring three of the final four points to cut it to 25-22. The Jackets hit a match-high .200 in the third set with nine kills and just three errors, while holding CWU to a match-low .086 with 11 kills and eight errors.
The Wildcats poured it on in the fourth set as they cruised to a 25-7 victory as MSUB hit a match-low -.152 with just four kills and nine errors. CWU raced out to a 16-3 lead as the Jackets made eight errors during the run.
MSUB completes the road trip at Northwest Nazarene Saturday evening at 7 p.m., before returning home to host Western Oregon and Saint Martin's next Thursday and Saturday in Alterowitz Gymnasium.
