BILLINGS, Mont.- The Montana State Billings cross country teams got their 2024 seasons underway on Monday, September 9th. The 'Jackets hosted their first ever Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bears Riverfront Open at Riverfront Park, here in Billings, MT. With a mix of experienced returners on the women's team and newcomers on the men's team, the 'Jackets are set to make their mark on the 2024 season. The women look to rely on their returners and upperclassmen, as they return seven runners from their 2023 squad. Carey Berendsen from Laramie, WY, Cecily Eagleton from Teton, ID, Alahna Lien from Post Falls, ID, Toree Manning from Billings, MT, Madeline Severson from Manhatton, MT, Chloe Shennum from Havre, MT, and Emma Weaver from Canal Fulton, OH all look to lead the women's team heading into the 2024 season.

Despite having heavy turnover, coach Woehl brought in more talent to compete for a top spot in the lineup. Gabi Becker from Silverdale, WA, Darci Littrell from Cut Bank, MT, Sara McCabe from Flagstaff, AZ, and Faith Rop from Eldama Ravine, all look to make their cross-country debut in a Yellowjacket uniform.

On the men's side, the 'Jackets return veteran runner Wyatt May from Bozeman, MT who looks to lead a whole squad of newcomers. Accompanying May will be Alden Buck Elk from Hardin, MT, Lennon Davis from Cincinnati, OH, Colter Howell from Stanford, MT, Jonathan Stene from Shepherd, MT, and Jerdan Crawford from Browning, MT.

"The team has been working hard since we started a couple weeks ago," said head coach Jon Woehl. "I can see already that our newcomers will be strong contributors to our team success this fall. Across the board, everyone has improved from last season, and they are focused on embracing the process of training and trusting that the results will follow."

This years slate has a mix of home and away meets and is capped off with the NCAA DII West Region Championships hosted here in Billings, MT. The Yellowjackets opened their season with the Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bears Riverfront Open and will follow that with the Blue Hawk Invite in Medora, ND. The 'Jackets then host the Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bears Open at Amend Park, followed by the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational in Logan, UT. MSUB will then enter their post season schedule at the GNAC Championships in Bellingham, WA, before returning home for the NCAA DII West Region Championships at their home course.
