RAPID CITY, S.D. – Three Yellowjackets won their individual matches but a clean sweep in doubles play led Augustana College to a 6-3 victory over Montana State University Billings in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Tennis Center of the Black Hills.
 
"It was a great matchup for us against a tough Augustana team," said MSUB head coach Becky King. "We played well but lost in some critical points. We have to work on being more consistent and using more variety."
 
Jade Goodyear-Anderson and Ricquel Ramsbottom each rallied after dropping their first set to earn comeback, three-set victories over their opponents. Goodyear-Anderson rallied for a 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Jenna Helleberg, and Ramsbottom beat Kaitlyn Motley 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.
 
"I am very proud of our freshmen players Ricquel and Jade for battling through matches they could have easily given up," King said.
 
Opp won her match by default as her opponent forfeited after the first game. The wins were the first of the year in individual play for the Yellowjackets, which fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
 
For Augustana (2-1), Berkley Darr defeated Hannah Shephard 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Wins by Meredith Lawrence over Mary Conwell (7-5, 6-1) and Heather Sullivan over Emily Paffhausen (6-1, 6-0) helped the Augies to a split in singles play.
 
In doubles action, the team of Conwell and Paffhausen was the closest to salvaging a win, but the duo fell to Helleberg and Lawrence at No. 2 doubles. Christine Olivo and Darr teamed up to beat Shephard and Goodyear-Anderson 8-4 at No. 1, and Sullivan and Motley took care of Ramsbottom and Opp 8-1 at No. 3.

Goodyear-Anderson was named the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Match for her strong comeback effort.
 
NEXT UP: The Yellowjackets will be back in action on Feb 20 against Utah State University at the Bobcat Tennis Center in Bozeman, Mont. MSUB then takes on Lewis-Clark State College two days later at the same location.
