BILLINGS, Mont. – With its second match of the spring scheduled for Sunday, the Montana State University Billings women's tennis team will take on Augustana College on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Rapid City, S.D.
"I am happy to get this opportunity to play Augustana," said MSUB head coach
Becky King. "They have a solid program and it has been years since we have competed against them."
Â
The 'Jackets kicked off their 2015 slate by hosting NCAA Division I opponent Montana State University last weekend. The Bobcats came away with a 7-0 team victory over the Yellowjackets at the Elks Tennis Center in Billings last Saturday.
Â
For MSUB last weekend,
Hannah Shephard and
Jade Goodyear-Anderson teamed up at No. 1 doubles, and
Emily Paffhausen and
Mary Conwell combined to make MSUB's No. 2 doubles team.
Morgan Opp and
Ricquel Ramsbottom rounded out the squad at No. 3 doubles against the Bobcats.
Â
In singles play, Conwell and Ramsbottom each took their opponents to a third set, but neither prevailed as the Bobcats completed a sweep of the 'Jackets.
"We will go into the match with the same lineup from last weekend," King commented. "Hannah and Jade will lead us in our doubles and we should see some good singles matchups through our entire lineup."
Â
The Augies, who compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, began their spring season with a 9-0 triumph over Nebraska Wesleyan on Feb. 1 and are scheduled to take on South Dakota on Friday before Sunday's matchup with the Yellowjackets.
"This should be a good matchup for our women's team," King said. "We have been working very hard all week and after Bozeman last week we are ready to play."
Â
After Sunday's match, the MSUB women will return to action on Feb. 20 in Bozeman, Mont., against Utah State University at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
