BILLINGS, Mont.- The Montana State University Yellowjacket cross country teams hosted their annual Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bears Open this afternoon at Amend Park. With 12 teams and 90 runners for both the men and women, the set field got underway at 12 PM (6K) and 12:45 PM (8K).
HEAR FROM COACH WOEHL: "It was a very strong day for the women, several of them had 6K personal records or were close to it. They showed today that they are getting better at running as a pack and finishing strong. Lennon dropped a lot more time off of his 8K and is proving to get better and better every single race."
Cecily Eagleton led the way for the women, recording her second best 6K time in her MSUB career at 24:23.0 and placing 28
th overall. Right behind Eagleton was
Madeline Severson who also recorded her second best 6K of her career. Severson crossed the line at 24:28.7, coming in 27
th place amongst the field of 70 competitors.
True freshmen,
Gabi Becker and
Sara McCabe were next to cross in 32
nd and 34
th, running their best 6K of the season at 24:50.3 and 24:51.0. Also crossing the line in the same pack was
Toree Manning and
Carey Berendsen at 25:21.0 and 25:31.6, coming in 40
th and 42
nd overall. Rounding it out for the Yellowjackets was
Alahna Lien at 26:11.0 in 52
nd place,
Chloe Shennum at 26:55.2 in 59
th place, and
Emma Weaver at 28:25.8 in 65
th overall.
On the men's side, true freshman
Lennon Davis crossed the finish line at 27:19.6 which was 42 seconds faster than his previous personal record. Davis finished out in 44
th place overall amongst the field of 90 competitors. Behind Davis was
Jerdan Crawford and
Wyatt May. Crawford came in at 30:12.7, coming in 77
th place overall but May was unable to finish.
THE BUZZ: Cecily Eagleton and
Lennon Davis were named Intermountain Health Performers of the Day.
