BELLINGHAM, Wash.- Highlighting the Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket cross country teams at the 2024 GNAC Cross Country Championships at Sudden Valley Golf Course,
Cecily Eagleton led the way for MSUB with a top 50 overall finish. The men kicked off their 8 Kilometer race at 10 AM (PDT), followed by the women's 6 Kilometer race at 11 AM (PDT) in Bellingham, WA.
The Yellowjacket women finished with 279 total team points, crossing the line with a combined team time of 2:03:49.7 and coming in 9
th place amongst the 10 GNAC teams. The men did not post a team score but competing as individuals, true freshman
Lennon Davis and junior
Wyatt May represented MSUB in the 8k. Davis led the way in 59
th place with a personal best 27:13.2, beating his previous time by over six seconds. May followed close behind at 27:35.6, coming in 68
th place amongst the 80-runner field.
HEAR FROM COACH WOEHL: "We had a strong showing today. Almost everyone, men and women included, had personal best times. It was a great way to end the season for the guys and I'm looking forward to seeing what Lennon and Wyatt can do for the track & field team this year. We're happy with the women's finish but know that we can and will do better at home in a couple weeks.
Eagleton was first to cross the line for the Yellowjacket women in 48
th place, posting a personal record 6k time of 23:46.6 and beating her previous time by just under 10 seconds. Close behind was
Madeline Severson in 55
th place, also posting a personal best time of 24:01.4 and demolishing her previous time by 25 seconds. Falling just outside the top 75 was
Carey Berendsen at 25:05.9, coming in 76
th place amongst the field of 93 competitors.
Crossing the line in a bunch was
Toree Manning,
Sara McCabe,
Gabi Becker, and
Chloe Shennum. Manning was the first of the group in 82
nd place at 25:27.8, followed by McCabe in 83
rd at 25:28.0, Becker 84
th at 25:34.2, and Shennum in 85
th with a personal best 6k time of 25:37.8 and crushing her previous personal best by over 30 seconds. Rounding it out for the MSUB women was
Alahna Lien in 89
th at 26:15.1 and
Emma Weaver in 91
st at 27:03.2 which was also a personal record for the sophomore.
THE BUZZ: Lennon Davis and
Cecily Eagleton were named Intermountain Health Performers of the Day.
