BOZEMAN, Mont. – Opening up the 2022-23 indoor track and field season on Thursday at Worthington Arena, the Montana State University Billings track and field team competed at the Bobcat Preview hosted by Montana State University.
Ase Ackerman and
Logan Straus had one of the strongest showings of the day for MSUB, finishing in third and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000-meters. Ackerman notched a time of 15:43.27 minutes, while Straus followed with a mark of 16:01.02 minutes.
Ben Ralston topped a field of four runners in the 400-meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 50.62 seconds to win the event.
Competing in the 60-meters were
Jon Rocha (7.37 seconds),
Lucas Harper (7.54 seconds), and
Brandon Geck (7.69 seconds), who finished in spots 18-20, respectively. Rocha and Geck also participated in the 200-meters, with Rocha running a time of 25.25 seconds and Geck following with a mark of 25.55 seconds.
Bryce Olson finished fifth among a field of 10 competitors in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.33 meters while Harper posted a mark of 5.66 meters. Olson also competed in the triple jump, where he logged a leap of 12.84 meters.
Jackson Bailey represented the 'Jackets in the 800-meters, running a time of 2:23.40 minutes in a race that featured two finishers.
Favor Okere made his MSUB debut, finishing with a mark of 1.76 meters in the high jump and 5.55 meters in the long jump.
For the Yellowjacket throws crew,
Isaac Perkins placed sixth of 11 in the shot put with a distance of 13.74 meters to lead the team.
Benton Carlson notched a shot of 11.56 meters, while
Ryder Klein posted a throw of 10.65 meters. Perkins also represented the 'Jackets in the weight throw, where he took sixth of 11 with a toss of 14.77 meters.
On the women's side,
Kendall Lynn posted a fifth-place finish among nine competitors in the long jump with a mark of 5.16 meters.
Tatum Hull took sixth with a leap of 5.11 meters, and
Madison Thompson finished eighth with a long jump of 5.07 meters. Lynn took second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.37 meters, while
Alyssa Sanchez was fifth with 10.53 meters and
Jasmine Cofield was seventh at 10.10 meters.
Hull was one of MSUB's top performers on Thursday, placing third among a field of eight runners in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds.
Gracie Bradley finished with a time of 10.20 seconds, while
Annelise Clark notched a mark of 10.96 seconds. Hull was also the top performer in the 200-meters, running a time of 26.92 seconds to place sixth among 15 competitors.
Katelyn Hamill was right behind in 27.43 seconds to take seventh, and
Mya Richardson took eighth with a time of 27.50 seconds. Klein ran a time of 27.65 seconds,
Alyssa Sanchez ran 27.96 seconds, Bradley ran 28.24 seconds, Clark ran 28.37 seconds, and
Sophia Bohl finished in 28.76 seconds.
Among the Yellowjacket distance crew,
Ally Whitmer was the top performer in the 5,000-meters finishing third among a field of six with a time of 21:00.42 minutes.
Kit Wiersema finished fourth with a time of 21:04.88 minutes,
Aspen Tolman was fifth in 21:11.62 minutes, and
Toree Manning took sixth in 23:02.47 minutes.
The 'Jacket women also sent a pair of 4x400-meter relay squads to the track, with the team of Severson, Hamill, Bohl, and Clark running a time of 4:23.08 minutes and the quartet of Klein, Bradley, Sanchez, and Richardson finishing in 4:23.68 minutes.
Four Yellowjacket women competed in the 60-meters, with Richardson leading the team with a mark of 8.15 seconds to place 10th of 14. Hamill ran a time of 8.32 seconds, Bohl ran 8.44 seconds, and Klein finished just behind in 8.46 seconds.
Madeline Severson was the lone Yellowjacket to compete in the 400-meters, finishing with a time of 1:07.08 minutes.
Jaida Green finished with a shot put of 11.09 meters, while
Grace Jones took fourth in the weight throw at 13.69 meters.
Brynn Jolma matched Jones with a throw of 13.69 meters, Green threw 12.61 meters, and
Jordan Cookman made a throw of 12.00 meters.
