Monica Grimsrud – Team Captain, Player of the Decade
Position: Outside Hitter
Hometown: Montana City, Montana
Playing Years: 2011-2014 (4 seasons)
Â
Feature Story: Grimsrud Doubles Up With Volleyball, Basketball For MSUB
One of the top players to ever suit up at MSUB, Grimsrud's stellar resume earned her the volleyball Player of the Decade distinction. The four-year starter finished her career with 1,361 kills, which ranks her No. 3 in the MSUB record books and is a figure nearly 200 kills higher than the next player who played during the 2010s. Grimsrud also ranks No. 2 in MSUB history in attempts with 3,901, and ninth in sets played with 387 in her four seasons.
Â
Grimsrud is also the only player on the all-decade team to make the GNAC all-conference team all four of her years on the court. She started off her career with a bang, earning second-team in 2011 and being singled out by the conference coaches as the GNAC Freshman of the Year.
Â
Her junior season was her strongest campaign, as Grimsrud ranked second in the GNAC with 3.74 kills per set and was named first-team all-conference. She was an honorable mention all-GNAC selection in both 2012 and 2014 as well, earned GNAC Player of the Week honors, and was named the MSUB Volleyball Player of the Year at the Buzzies.
Â
Grimsrud also competed on the Yellowjacket women's basketball team during her career, where she was an honorable mention all-conference forward and helped the team make the trip to a pair of NCAA regional tournaments.
Â
Grimsrud on her fondest MSUB memories: "The relationships with teammates, and traveling to so many amazing places."
Â
Casey Williams on Grimsrud: "Monica was a great volleyball player and statistically has left a great mark on the MSUB volleyball program. She was such a threat offensively because of her versatility. She was able to swing on either pin, and was also a force defensively at the net. She continues to stay active in the Billings volleyball community, and I am looking forward to continuing to watch her succeed both on and off the volleyball court."
Â
Where is she now? Grimsrud resides in Billings and is the head volleyball coach at Billings West High School.
Â
Ashlynn Ward
Position: Outside Hitter

Another four-year standout at the net for the 'Jackets, Ward cemented her name into the program record books as well. She recorded 1,156 kills over her four seasons, ranking her seventh in the all-time top-10. Ward also had 3,304 attempts which ranks her sixth highest, and her career .212 hitting percentage is the ninth-best in school history. Ward played in 400 sets, ranking her sixth in the record books as well.
Â
After seeing significant playing time in each of her first two seasons, Ward emerged into a recognized force across the GNAC starting her junior year. She earned honorable mention all-league in 2015 after leading the team with 347 kills, and ranking fourth in the conference with 3.30 kills per set.

Â
Casey Williams (Ward's Head Coach 2016): "Ashlynn was a rare player and someone who we have definitely missed the last couple of years. She was such a threat offensively and had one of the fastest arm swings that I have ever seen."

With one season left to go, Monck has already accrued 795 kills, making the career top-10 list all but a certainty with her final season yet to play. Monck already ranks No. 10 in block assists with 195, and with 202 total blocks she figures to crack into the top-10 in that category when all is said and done.
Â
Monck on her current MSUB team: "Our team has always had a strong core on and off the court. Not every team has the connection we have, and when it's all there it's pretty great."
Â
Casey Williams (Monck's Head Coach 2017-Current): "
Bayli Monck might be the most athletic player I have ever coached. She has been a three-year starter and I have no doubt in my mind that she will lead multiple statistical categories by the time her career is finished here. She is a captain, leader, mentor, and so much more for our volleyball team. I am looking forward to watching her thrive in her senior year."

Â
Casey Williams (Siemion's Head Coach 2016): "Stormy was one of the biggest grinders that I have ever coached. She outworked anyone in the gym and always showed up ready to learn. She was a great leader both on and off the court, and had a huge impact on our program. Stormy continues to have an impact on the Billings volleyball community."
