Yellowjackets set new season and personal bests as GNAC Championships loom

BOISE, Ida. – In two straight days of competition, The Montana State University Billings track and field team competed in the Nike Indoor Jackson's Invitational hosted by Boise State University. Facing the largest field of the season, the Yellowjackets were able to muster season's bests and personal bests at every turn.
 
The meet that featured Boise State University, Utah State University, Pepperdine, Eastern Oregon University, Lewis and Clark College, College of Idaho, Treasure Valley Community College, Brigham Young University, San Francisco State University, Central Washington University, Seattle Pacific University, Claremont College, Northwest Nazarene University Northwest Christian University.
 
"Overall we can take a lot of positive things away from this," said head coach Jon Woehl. "We had a lot of personal bests and season bests that will give us some good momentum heading into the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in a few weeks."
 
Continuing her banner indoor season, Brenna Beckett took 10th place in the long jump with a leap of 5.03m to beat out several Division one and Division two opponents. In the triple jump she took 10th place with a jump of 10.87. In the 200m dash she finished in 32nd with a season best time of 24.05. 
 
Nikki Aiken ran a new personal best in the 3k with a time of 10:56.82 good enough for seventh place. She finished the 5K with a time of 15:56.92 putting her in seventh as well. Kailee Stoppel ran a season best in the 3k finishing with a time of 11:19.08 good enough for 12th overall.
 
Mariah May had a huge personal best to take home 10th in the weight throw with a heave of 14.61m. Taylor Stringari finished in 18th with a throw of 13.18m. May also took ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.52m while Stringari finished right behind her in 10th registering a throw of 11.14m. Freshmen Brynn Jolma threw a season best and career best 11.90m and finished in 27th place overall. 
 
Sierra Durbin ran a season best in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:27.55 which put her in 13th place.
 
Mason Schram ran the 60m dash in 7.14 good enough for 18th. Rahkei Eyer finished in 24th with a time of 7.27. Eyer also finished in 21 in the 200m with a time of 22.93.
 
Tyler Rued ran the 200m dash in a time of 23.18 just ahead of Schram who finished with a time of 23.20 as the duo finished in 28th and 29th respectively.
 
Isaiah Girard took home fourth place honors in the high jump with a leap of 1.96m.
 
In the Men's 5K MSUB finished in the 6, 7, 8 spots. Bryant Edgerton ran a new personal best 16:02.94, Logan Straus also had a personal best with a time of 16:05.59 and Ronald Venema ran a 16:30.31.
 
Ase Ackerman ran a season best 8:56.62 in the 3k and took home third place which is the highest finish from any 'Jacket in the meet. Venema and Edgerton set new season bests as well with times of 9:17.42 and 9:36.09 respectively. Ackerman also ran a new personal best in the 1 mile run finishing in sixth place with a tie of 4:27.16.
 
Men's weight throw featured Forrest Cross who takes home seventh place with a throw of 14.73m. Ely Kraft takes 10th with a throw of 13.69m. Cross also finished in seventh in the shot put with a throw of 14.63.
 
Athlete of the Meet: For his third place finish and new season best, Ase Ackerman is named the St. Vincent Healthcare Athlete of the meet.
 
WHATS NEXT: MSUB has a couple weeks off as they prepare to travel to the GNAC Indoor Championships hosted by Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho running February 21-22.
