BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings track & field team would round out it's slate of home meets on Saturday at the Dave Coppock Yellowjacket Open, putting together another meet of successful results in the team's second meet of the outdoor season.
 
With the Yellowjacket's seniors being recognized with friends and family present early in the meet, the team would show out in front of a home crowd. Top among them would be one of those seniors, Bella Klein, who would improve upon her own school record time in the 400m with a time of 58.04, besting her previous mark of 58.26. Klein would also run the first leg of the 4x100 relay with Izzy Ping, Delainey Engen, and Micah Strong, whose 49.35 time in the race was good enough to take the top spot in the meet.
 
Staying on the track for the Yellowjacket women, Strong would take second place in the 800m a week after setting the school record in the event, with the freshman running a time of 2:17.21. Meanwhile, Ping would take MSUB's top finish in the 100m, placing seventh with a mark of 12.78 before setting a PR mark in the 200m with a time of 26.35. Ava Graham would also PR in the 200m with a time of 27.41, as would Laila Chrsitiansen, who finished in 28.21 to take 16th and 20th respectively. Christianesen would also PR in the 400m with a finish of 1:03.86.
 
Senior Toree Manning would take MSUB's top finish in the 400m hurdfles with a time of 1:19.76, as well as in the 1500m where she ran a time of 5:28.67. Continuing a run of PRs, Chloe Shennum would PR in the 800m with a time of 2:26.51, finishing eighth, while Ally Coey would be MSUB's top finisher in the 5000m, running a time of 19:49.87.
 
In the field events, the throws would see a number of Yellowjackets collect quality finishes, with Hannah Cooper taking a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.15m (164' 6"). Cooper would also place fourth in the javelin with a throw of 38.96m (127' 10"), and sixth in shot put with a season-best mark of 12.17m (39' 11.25"). Cooper would be joined by Jaida Green, who placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.01m (154' 2"), as well as an eighth place finish in the shot put with a best effort of 11.20m (36' 9"). Meanwhile, freshman Rae Smart would continue her hot start to outdoor season with a pair of team leading finishes, placing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.40m (43' 11.75"), and fifth in the discus with a throw of 40.29m (132' 2"). Smart would also take sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 37.78m (123' 11").
 
For the MSUB men, the team's best finishes would come in the field events, led by a pair of fourth place finishes. Cort Sandefur would earn fourth in the hammer throw, with his throw of 49.80m (163' 4"), while Goodness Okere would take fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.26m (43' 6"). Behind the pair, Kody Biggs would place seventh in hammer throw with a best toss of 46.58m (152' 10"), while Kane Olsen would take ninth in the event with a PR effort of 42.79m (140' 4"). Meanwhile, Johnnie Young would finish sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.86m (6' 1.25") to lead the 'Jackets, while placing seventh in triple jump with a mark of 12.64m (41' 5.75"), and Nolan Evenson would finish sixth in pol vault with a mark of 4.35m (14' 3.25").
 
On the track, Landon Freeman would take sixth to lead  MSUB in the 100m with a time of 11.31, while JayCee Herbert paced the team in the 200m, finishing eighth with a run of 22.51. Terran Joseph would PR one spot behind Herbert in the 200m with a time of 22.57, while Caleb Young would also PR in 11th with a time of 22.81. In the 400m, Brock Grossman would place eighth with a time of 51.21.
 
As the distances extended, the Yellowjackets would see a pair of PRs from runners. Lennon Davis would set his new best time in the 800m with a time of 1:58.13, while in the 1500m, Bruce Reed would run a PR time of 4:19.38, taking sixth and eighth in their respective events.
 
THE BUZZ: Klein and Okere would be named the Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
