GILLETTE, Wyo. – Freshmen
Lonis Sherman in the pole vault,
Sam Zook in the 60m dash, and sophomore
Hope Reid in the 60m hurdles all set new MSU Billings records at the Birds and Bees Invitational hosted by Black Hills State University and Chadron State University at the Campbell County Recreation Center Field House on Saturday.
Reid placed second in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.31, besting her own record set last season of 9.36.
Zook finished the 60m dash in 7.05 placing fifth overall, setting the new MSUB men's indoor record. Sherman reached a height of 4.38m in the men's pole vault surpassing the 2013 mark from Branden Martinez of 4.31m. Sherman was the St. Vincent Healthcare Athlete of the Meet.
"It was a good all-around day, all through the events," MSUB head coach
Dave Coppock said. "We had two first-place results in the women's and men's mile from
Nocona Frame and
Liam McKay. Nocona then came back and placed second in the women's 800m.
Robert Peterson was second in the men's 3,000m as well."
The Montana State University Billings women's track and field team placed second out of eight teams with 66 total points, while the MSUB men's team was sixth of eight with 38.50 points.
Frame finished the women's mile in 5:15.61. Junior
Brielle Davis was fifth in the same event, crossing the finish line in 5:37.99, followed closely by teammate
Taylor Condon who was sixth in 5:40.65. Frame ran the women's 800m run in 2:26.67 for second place.
McKay won the men's mile in 4:34.05. Fellow freshman
Mark Hovland was fifth for MSUB in 4:36.91.
Junior Peterson completed the men's 3,000m run in 8:39.39.
Other top-5 results included freshman
Brianna Gray in the women's 60m dash with a fifth-place time of 8.11.
Melanie Bock was third in the women's 3,000m race in 11:11.89 and
Rio Frame was right behind her, finishing in 11:13.72.
Amanda Nichols was fifth in the women's pole vault at 3.00m. For the men's team, Dominque Holt was fifth in the men's high jump with a distance of 1.81m.
"Out teams made a lot of progress tonight," Coppock said. "We are off a week until conference which is two weeks from today. It was good to see our sprinters and jumpers doing so well, and we hope everyone will be ready for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks."
