BOZEMAN, Mont. – In their final meet before the GNAC Indoor Championships this month, the Montana State University Billings men's and women's track & field teams continued to build momentum in their final meet of the regular season for indoor, taking part in the Carignan Classic hosted by Montana State University in Bozeman on Friday afternoon.
Competing against athletes from colleges all across the state, the Yellowjackets found some of their top marks of the season. In the men's field events, a season-best jump of 13.16m (43' 2.25") from
Goodness Okere in the triple jump garnered MSUB it's top finish in an event during the meet. Meanwhile in the weight throw,
Cort Sandefur placed seventh with a throw of 17.11m (56' 1.75"), while
Kody Biggs would finish narrowly behind him with a mark of 17.02m (55' 10.25"), setting a new PR and setting the 89
th best mark in Division II this season. Freshman
Sean Zimmer would take 11
th with a throw of 15.17m (49' 9.25"), setting a new PR for himself and taking 12
th place. Sandefur would take the top mark for MSUB in the shot put with a mark of 13.94m (45' 9"), while
Kane Olsen set a new PR for himself with a mark of 13.50m (44' 3.5").
In the other jumping events for the men,
Johnnie Young and
Ian Myers would each set a mark of 1.80m (5' 10.75"), with Young taking seventh and Myers taking eighth. The mark tied a season best and PR mark for the freshman Myers, while Okere would finish behind them in ninth with a season best of 1.75m (5' 8.75").
Back on the track,
Brock Grossman set a season best mark in the 400m with a time of 51.56. In the 800m,
Lennon Davis and
Bruce Reed both set season bests as well, with Davis running a time of 2:02.71, and Reed placing 26
th with a mark of 2:10.15. In the 60m,
Terran Joseph and
Ontario Smith both ran PR times of 7.34 and 7.47, and in the 200m,
Landon Freeman and Rom Honer would PR with times of 23.28 and 24.49 respectively.
Aidan Johnson would set season best marks in both events, with a time of 7.46 in the 60m and 24.57 in the 200m.
On the women's side of the meet,
Izzy Ping would continue to run strong with a pair of PR times, leading the team in the 60m with a time of 8.03 to finish 21
st, and the 200m with a time of 27.21 to place 19
th.
Katie Sheridan would also run a PR time in the 60m with a time of 8.48, while in the 60m hurdles, both
Delainey Engen and
Kinley Wieland would run PR times of 9.86 and 10.57 respectively.
Micah Strong would run a time of 26.59 to lead MSUB's runners in the event in 15
th.
As the distances stretched further, the 'Jackets continued to find a handful of personal and season bests, with
Chloe Shennum leading the way in the mile with a PR time of 5:38.41.
Micah Strong led the Yellowjackets in the 400m with a time of 1:00.10, while senior
Bella Klein would finish one spot behind her with a season best mark of 1:00.52, and
Laila Christiansen would PR with a time of 1:04.66, placing 16
th. In the 800m,
Emma Weaver would PR with a time of 2:35.34, while
Toree Manning set a new PR in the 3000m with a time of 11:58.53.
In the field events, MSUB would have it's most success in the weight throw, where
Hannah Cooper would lead the way with a seventh-place finish, throwing a best mark of 16.38m (53' 9"). Behind her,
Jaida Green would throw a season best total of 14.96m (49' 1"), placing 13
th, while
Morgan Lijewski would set a PR with a finish of 12.49m (40' 11.75"). Lijewski would also take the top finish for MSUB in the shot put with a mark of 11.05m (36' 3"), while fellow freshman Lizzy Kerzmn would PR with a mark of 10.69m (35' 1").
THE BUZZ: Cort Sandefur and
Hannah Cooper would be named the Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
