Box Score SEATTLE – Completing its fourth shutout of the 2014 season, the Montana State University Billings women's soccer team fought Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent Seattle Pacific to a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Interbay Stadium on Thursday evening.
The MSUB defense was able to deny the Falcons a goal, and senior goalkeeper
Krystal Daniels made four saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. The 'Jackets moved to 5-2-2 on the season and are now 3-2-2 in GNAC play. "Tonight was another tough GNAC game," said MSUB head coach
Wojtek Krakowiak. "We were organized defensively, and the whole team deserves credit for the result tonight."
SPU outshot MSUB on the evening 20-6 and won eight corners while allowing just one. The Falcons' record is now 5-3-2 overall on the season, and SPU is even with MSUB at 3-2-2 in conference play. The shutout was the second of the season for SPU.
Two of the goal scorers from the last meeting between the teams got the action started, as
Katlyn Lokay took MSUB's first shot and missed high and Hannah Huesers responded with a pair of shots. Her second was on target, but Daniels made her first save of the match to keep the game scoreless in the opening 10 minutes.
Chelsea Shuman, who had a team-best three shots and two on target, created the next chance for the 'Jackets with a shot that was blocked in the 12th minute.
Daniels came up with another save in the 21st minute when Isabel Farrell placed a shot on frame, knocking the ball out of bounds for an SPU corner kick.
The 'Jackets had a few more chances in the first half, as
Amanda Perri fired a shot towards target that missed left, and Shuman struck a ball that required SPU goalkeeper Alexa Hughes to make a save in the 37th minute.
The Falcons came extremely close to moving ahead with six minutes before halftime, as a shot by Laura Moore caromed off of the crossbar.
Coming out of the break, SPU kept its foot on the gas as Huesers directed a shot towards goal and missed high in the 50th minute.
Demi Waitley had another shot for the Falcons with a header that was too high, coming four minutes after MSUB's
Teegan Koster had a promising shot knocked down by SPU's defense.
Neither team found a break through heading into the middle of the second half, with SPU holding the slight advantage on shots by Farrell and Waitley that both missed off target.
Following Moore's lead, Huesers came inches away from finding the net as her shot in the 76th minute rattled off of the crossbar.
The Yellowjackets continued to dodge bullets down the stretch, as two-straight shots by Moore and Huesers were blocked, and a second by Huesers in the 82nd minute missed over the bar.
Entering the overtime period still knotted at 0-0, Daniels saved the day by denying a header attempt by Shayla Page, and an ensuing header by Huesers missed high.
Shuman pressured the Falcons to open the second overtime period, forcing Hughes to make a save on a shot in the 101st minute. Farrell became the third Falcon to hit the crossbar with a shot, as her attempt in the 106th minute was denied by the goal frame.
SPU managed one final shot on frame in the last minute of the game, but Daniels secured it to ensure the shutout. "We had some decent chances going forward and I'm very happy with the team effort," Krakowiak said. "They really dug deep."
