Yellowjackets Mark Final Home Match of Regular Season with Defeat Against Seattle Pacific

BILLINGS, Mont. – Competing in the team's final home game of the 2025 regular season, the Montana State University Billings women's soccer team would be unable to collecting victory against Seattle Pacific University, falling 1-0 to the Saints in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

Looking to finish their home schedule on a high note in front of their fans, the Yellowjackets (3-14-0, 2-11-0 GNAC) would finish the game on the wrong side of the scoreline, coming up short to the Falcons (8-4-6, 6-3-4 GNAC). In a game influenced heavily by strong winds, Seattle Pacific would control the proceedings handily, outshooting MSUB 20-3 overall, and 8-3 in shots on goal.

With the wind at their backs to open the game, Seattle Pacific would wrestle momentum into their corner early in the game, putting the team's first shot on goal in just the third minute. Although Natalie Weinmaster would stop that effort, it would set the tone for an opening half which would see the Yellowjackets struggle to push the ball upfield between the torrential winds, and a strong SPU defense. The Falcons would outshoot MSUB 11-1 in total across the opening 45 minutes, and would add five corner kicks as they kept the 'Jackets backline on it's toes. But between four first half saves from Weinmaster, and a number of blocks and key defensive plays, the Yellowjackets would manage to keep the score knotted at 0-0 as the game made it's way into halftime.

Despite switching directions in the second half though, the Falcons would still continue their strong attacking push, forcing Weinmaster into another save less than a minute and a half after the whistle resumed play. Shortly after that, as the game made it's way into the 50th minute, it would be Kayla Wallace that would open the scoring finally for Seattle Pacific, sending a close range effort into the roof of the net to best Weinmaster and give her side a 1-0 advantage. MSUB would attempt to find an equalizer, with promising chances coming just a minute apart on a shot outside the box from Cesia Swain, and MSUB's lone shot on goal from Liberty Palmer. But the senior's 54th minute look would not only be MSUB's only shot on goal, it would be their final shot of the match, as the Falcons regained control and never looked back on their way to picking up the victory.

Weinmaster would total seven saves in net, setting a new career high for saves in a game. Meanwhile Swain attempted a pair of shots in the match, while Palmer's shot on goal would be her only attempt.

THE BUZZ: Midfielder Erika Wilson would be named the Intermountain Health Player of the Game.

UP NEXT: MSUB will turn around and hit the road for the team's final match of the 2025 season, facing off against Western Oregon University on Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM MT (1:30 PM PT) at WOU Soccer Field. Live video is available on the GNAC Network, and live statistics are available here.
