PORTLAND, Ore. – Leading the Montana State University Billings men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Chico State InterWest Classic earlier this week, Yellowjacket freshman
Austin Berg has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week announced by the conference office on Thursday.
Â
Berg finished in fourth place individually, carding a 2-under par 214 on the tournament with rounds of 69, 72, and 73. Berg also had a dozen birdies at the event, marking the second-highest total by an individual.
Â
"Austin had a fantastic tournament this past week in Chico," said head coach
Shawn O'Brien. "He is a very talented young man, who is going to have great success this year."
Â
The freshman's effort helped MSUB to the fourth-place finish among the field of 15 teams, as MSUB shot a score of 895 (293-296-306).
Â
Berg is the second MSUB men's golfer in-a-row to collect the GNAC award, as senior
Jake Hedge was picked for the honor last week after winning the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational in dramatic playoff fashion.
Â
MSUB wrapped up its fall schedule with the California tournament, and will return to the greens in March to kick off the 2015 portion of its schedule with the Yellowjacket Spring Invite.
