BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings' women's golf team started its season with a first place finish in the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational. MSUB rode a school-record low round of 298 to the tournament title Friday.

The Yellowjackets second round team total broke the previous school record, 301, set in 2011-12 at the Rocky Mountain Invitational. MSU Billings placed three finishers in the top five led by Katie Fish. The junior shot a second round 73 and finished second. She came into the day in third with a 79. Capri Ingram, who was tied for third, remained in third place with a 153 total. Mariah Cleveland followed her 78 with a 77 for a fifth place finish. Those scores are all top five two-round totals in program history.

Montana State Billings held off crosstown rival, Rocky Mountain College, for the tournament win. The Bears totaled 631, with a 300 finish Friday. The Yellowjackets' team total was 616. Black Hills State placed third with a 661 total. MSUB's "B" team came in fourth.

Carroll College's Jackie Mee entered the second round in first place with a 78, and she claimed the medalist title after a 73 Friday. Black Hills State's Amanda Johnson rounded out the top five and All-Tournament Team with a fourth place finish. Rocky Mountain's Katy Peterson shot a tournament-low round of 70 Friday and came in 11th.

Despite shooting the third best single round score in school history, the MSUB men were beat by North Idaho College. After shooting a first day best 291, the Yellowjackets finished the final round with a 271. NIC bested that with a 267. The Cardinals shot 293 in Round 1. Carroll placed third followed by Rocky Mountain.

Chris Cremer and Angus Montgomery paced North Idaho with first and second place finishes. Both golfers shot tournament-low rounds of 64 Friday. Cremer took medalist honors with a 135, two strokes better than Montgomery.

Brad Harrelson and Marcus Drange both shot 68 in the second round, and both had top five finishes. Harrelson placed third with a 139, while Drange came in fifth with a 142. In his Yellowjacket debut, Austin Westphal, a transfer from NIC, placed eighth.

The Yellowjacket women have a short break before traveling to Spearfish, S.D., for the Black Hills State Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The MSUB men return to Peter Yegen Golf Course Wednesday and Friday for match play against Rocky Mountain.
