Billings, Mont. – All of the hard work has finally paid off for the Montana State Billings women's tennis team, as they dominate Colorado Christian University, defeating the Cougars 8-1 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
The Yellowjackets improve to 1-2 in the RMAC following the victory. MSUB started strong, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Hannah Shephard and
Marissa O'Connell won their No. 1 doubles match 8-4 over Katy Balli and Elizabeth Vertin, to start the Jackets on the right foot.
Madeline Loomis and
Mary Conwell sealed the win for the Yellowjackets winning their No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches. Loomis defeated Vertin 6-1, 6-3; and Conwell turned Balli away 6-2, 2-6, 10-3. O'Connell,
Kaitlin Nichols and
Emily Paffhausen also recorded singles victories in the contest.
“The Yellowjacket women worked hard for their first team win,” stated assistant coach Catherine Germic. “Each player needed to maintain an increased level of concentration against a challenging opponent. The women's team is certainly hitting their stride as they close out the regular season this weekend.”
After notching their first victory, MSUB will travel to Pueblo, Colo. to compete against Colorado State University-Pueblo and Western New Mexico University tomorrow Saturday, April 6.
