Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings women's tennis team closes out the 2013 season, finishing fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Yellowjackets bounced back from a 1-5 loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo and defeated Colorado Christian University 5-1 in their afternoon contest.
In their first matchup against CSU-Pueblo,
Mary Conwell/
Emily Paffhausen defeated Teresa Haro/ Toni Alvarez in their No. 2 doubles bout, 8-3, to score the Yellowjackets lone point in the match.
Madeline Loomis,
Hannah Shephard, and Paffhuasen singles matches all had no results.
MSUB had a better performance against Colorado Christian, winning two out of three doubles matches. Conwell/ Paffhausen turned away Kara Williams/ Cameron Shelby, 8-4, in No. 2 doubles; and Loomis/
Libby Rutz defeated Cassie Greco/ Candace Carlson, 8-1, in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Loomis dominated Elizabeth Vertin 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 2 bout. Paffhausen defeated Greco, 6-1, 6-0 in their No. 5 singles matchup; and Rutz recorded a victory over Carlson, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles event.
“Our very young ladies team showed improvement throughout the season,” stated head coach Lew Kosich. “I am happy to have ended on a high note; it creates excitement for next season.”
The Yellowjackets conclude the 2013 season with a 2-16 overall record.
