Women’s Tennis Competes Well in RMAC Opener

Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings women's tennis team played well against Colorado Mesa University and Metropolitan State University of Denver, as they opened their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the Elks Tennis Center Friday, March 29. While the Yellowjackets remain winless they continue to improve each match.

Madeline Loomis and Amanda Milliard fought hard in their doubles match, falling 9-7 to Katie Metz and Emily Dodson. Mary Conwell and Emily Paffhausen also put forth a great effort in their doubles bout with Skyler Nelson and Kristyn Wykert, losing 8-6.

The Jackets couldn't find their rhythm in singles play, and the Mavericks would go on to take the 9-0 victory. Colorado Mesa improves to 8-13 overall, 1-0 in RMAC

MSUB had better success in their Saturday, March 30 bout with Metro State. Conwell and Paffhausen won their No. 2 doubles match 8-3 against Marianne Evangelista and Sam Schall. In No. 2 singles Loomis won her third match of 2013, downing Evangelista 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Conwell recorded her first career singles victory, defeating Alicia Holm 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in their No. 3 singles matchup.

While the Jackets experienced individual success, the Roadrunners ultimately won Saturday's contest 6-3. Metro State improves to 9-12 overall, 2-0 in the RMAC.

“The Yellowjacket women are beginning to learn what it feels like to win,” stated assistant coach Catherine Germic. “After two highly competitive matches, the team came away with some crucial individual wins. Each player brought their game to a higher level and that will help them in next week's matchup.”

MSU Billings (0-13, 0-2 RMAC) squares off with Colorado Christian University on Friday, April 5 in Lakewood, Colo. then travels to Pueblo, Colo. to compete against Colorado State University – Pueblo and Western New Mexico University on Saturday, April 6.
