Women’s Golf Starts Season with Solid Performance at Grizzly Invitational

Billings, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women's golf team started their fall season at the Grizzly invitational in Alamosa, Colo. Head coach Shawn O'Brien has a talented group of experienced golfers that are poised to make an impact in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
 

The Grizzly Invitational/RMAC No. 1 women's golf tournament is played Sunday through Monday at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa, Colo. Nine teams played in the event, and the Yellowjackets finished third overall with 657 strokes, behind Western New Mexico with 628 strokes and event winner Colorado State-Pueblo with 617 strokes.
 

After the first round MSUB was in the fourth spot behind Colorado Mesa University, who shot a team 316 compared to the Jackets 323. The Yellowjackets shot a 334 in the second round to climb to third place compared to Colorado Mesa's 346 which eventually dropped them down to fifth behind Adams State University.
 

“This is a good start to the season,” stated O'Brien. “Anytime we can place in the top three of any tournament, we are competitively pleased with the results. Mariah Cleveland hit the ball great both days, and I am extremely pleased with her play.”

The women's next scheduled event will be the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational held at Pryor Creek Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 20 through Friday, Sept. 21.
