Track & Field Gets First Look at Facility for GNAC Indoor Championship Meet in Bronco Open

NAMPA, Idaho –
 The Montana State University Billings track and field teams wrapped up their time at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Boise State Saturday afternoon having gotten a good look at the facilities that will be used to host the Great Northwest Athletic Conference indoor championship meet in two weeks.
 
The Yellowjackets competed fiercely against 14 other teams including several NCAA Division I opponents in UCLA, Boise State, Utah State and the University of Washington. Other Division II schools in attendance included Academy of Art and Northwest Nazarene among others.
 
“We had several good performances again this week with several people finishing in the top-eight in their events,” said head coach Dave Coppock. “We are pretty happy with how the meet went overall because it was full of some very tough competition. We learned a lot and now have a better idea of where we are concerning how we may look in two weeks when the conference meet is held at the same facility.
 
Stacey Pitt finished the women's high jump with a eight of 5-3 (1.6 meters) while Leeza Henry and Anica Knispel finished fifth and sixth respectively in the women's shot put event. Henry had a put of 43-8 (13.31 meters) while Knispel had a longest throw of 43-02.25 (13.16 meters).
 
For the men, Tyson Vanderby finished 10th in the men's 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.09 while Taylor Canfield and Dylan Lammers each came home in the top-10 in the 3,000 meter run. Canfield finished eighth in a time of 9:31.65 while Lammers crossed the line in 10th in a time of 9:52.15.
 
Also on the men's side, Nick Kozub placed sixth in the men's high jump event with a height of 6-2.25 (1.89 meters) while Taylor Firestone, Shae Stein and Brock Steingruber all had good outings in the men's long jump. Firestone finished fifth with a height of 21-03.5 (6.49 meters) with Stein close behind in sixth with a height of 21-02.75 (6.47 meters). Steingruber finished 11th with a height of 19-05.5 (5.93 meters).
 
Firestone also placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 43-1.75 (13.15 meters).
 
Tanner Rottrup and Jake Swan both finished high in the men's shot put with puts of 48-8.75 (14.85 meters) and 47-5.75 (14.47 meters) respectively. Rottrup's mark earned him third-place honors while Swan finished in fourth.
 
The Yellowjackets will have one final tune-up prior to competing in the 2012 GNAC indoor championship meet as they will next head back to Spearfish, S.D. for the Rock and Jock Indoor Open hosted by Black Hills State University. The Rock and Jock will be contested on Saturday, Feb. 11.
