Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings women's soccer team played their final home game of the season in the 11th Annual Futbol Frenzy. For six seniors it was last time they would ever play at Yellowjacket Field. In a cloudy and rainy event, MSUB captured the 1-0 shutout victory over Simon Fraser.

Neither rain nor a 30 minute lightning delay would deny Adrienne Biglow, Courtney Harvey, Kristen Kastelic, Jennifer Larsen, Janae Remsberg and Jaucelyn Richter from coming out as victors on their day. The 2012 senior class is one of the most successful classes in the program's history. Including Saturday's win they have a current overall record of 45-23-6 and Great Northwest Athletic Conference record of 30-18-4. They have had three consecutive seasons with 11 or more wins, and their lowest win total in a season was nine wins.

The victory over Simon Fraser was an inspiring performance lead by the six seniors.

MSUB put together great efforts offensively and defensively and controlled all aspects of the game. Richter started the Jackets' attack early taking two shots on goal within the first three minutes. The Clan's Amanda Gililiand played each attempt correctly and came up with saves on the play.

Simon Fraser counter with two shots of their own in the 9th and 11th minute, but only Tessa Barbour's attempt at 9:28 was on target. Freshman goal keeper Aiko Johnson denied the attempt making a nice save on the play.

Following the Clan's shot at 11:22; the Yellowjackets would control possession and not allow Simon Fraser to go on the attack until the late minutes of the second half.

Chelsea Shuman took three consecutive shot attempts between the 14th and 19th minutes, with her 18:39 shot landing on target. Gililiand made her third save of the day.

After Alisa Sagdahl's shot on goal attempt that was saved at 33:55, the referees stopped play due to a lightning storm. While the lightning passed during the 30 minute delay, the teams would be welcomed with a light rain as they resumed play.

The Yellowjackets picked up where they left off and took four more shot attempts to end the half. While all were quality shots, neither would yield any scores and MSUB and Simon Fraser went into intermission even at 0-0.

Even though the Jackets were unable to come away with any goals despite their efficient attack efforts, they remained undiscouraged and kept charging ahead in the second half.

From the start of the half until the 55th minute, MSUB took six consecutive shot attempts, four of which were on goal. As the sun set midway through the match, the Jackets' needed to find success on their attack attempts because the match's continuance would be threatened.

Just as it seemed the match would end in a draw, Richter caught fire. Her 61:50 attempt was barely saved by Gililiand and her 63:10 shot hit the post. Richter would not be denied on her next attempt.

At 65:38 Richter blasted a shot from 15 yards away that deflected off the goal keeper's hand to land in the bottom right corner of the net, giving MSUB the 1-0 lead. With her third goal of the season she has 77 career points and moves up to the No. 2 spot on the all-time career scoring list in the program's history.

Simon Fraser tried to even the score with two shot attempts but both attempts were off target. The referees called the match in the 80th minute of play due to darkness and the Yellowjackets went on to capture their 12th win of the season.

“Today's game is what MSUB women's soccer stands for; never give up and outlast your opponent,” head coach Wojtek Krakowiak said. “We came out full of energy, urgency and hunger. A huge credit goes to the team for playing in tough conditions and getting a win. I also want to thank our seniors for their leadership and effort all season. We are looking forward to our next game against Western Oregon.”

Johnson recorded her eighth shutout of the year and finished with one save on the day.

Now at 12-4 overall and 8-4 in the GNAC, MSUB will travel to Monmouth, Ore. for their rematch against Western Oregon University on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).
