NAMPA, Idaho -- The Montana State Billings men's and women's track and field teams finally got their chance to compete in descent weather for the 2011 outdoor season as they traveled to the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational in Nampa, Idaho Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Anica Knispel continued her strong spring season as the Billings native won the shot put event with a toss of 13.25 meters (43-05.75) and second in the discus event. Her victory was backed by another field event win for the Yellowjacket women in the high jump as
Stacey Pitt took home first place with a clearance of 1.66 meters (5-05.25). Both marks were school records for the freshmen.
In the running events for the women,
Katie Thiel took home the third win for the MSUB women in the 5,000 meter run with a top time of 19:27.55, nearly 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Justine Simons had the next best finish in the running events, placing third with a time of 26.25 in the 200 meter sprint.
The men saw a victory from
Lewis Polkow in the 400 meter hurdles, defeating Greyson Kilgore by nearly two seconds for the win.
Ryan Blomback had a strong showing in the 800 meter run as the sophomore clocked a time of 1:57.06.
The final top result for the Yellowjackets came in the men's shot put when
Tanner Rottrup took home a third place finish in the event with a top throw of 13.87 meters (45-06.25).
The Yellowjackets now get set for their upcoming meet next weekend at the Black Hills State Open in Spearfish, S.D.
