COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Montana State Billings women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match versus Colorado State-Pueblo Sunday.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 0-2 in the RMAC and 3-7 overall. 

“A year ago, this team was losing matches at this level 9-0,” MSUB first year head coach Lew Kosich said.  “They are showing great improvement with every match.  This was a tough loss in a very closely contested match.”

The Thunderwolves took an early 2-1 lead in doubles as they won two of the three matches.  The Jackets won at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Maria Peterson and Johnna Beatty downed Kellie Manes and Aneysa Hart, 8-3.

The Jackets battled back and took a 4-3 lead with just two singles matches left on the court.  MSUB just needed a win at either No. 4 or No. 6 singles to secure the team win.  Senior Rikki Peach, Beatty and freshman Jane Probst all earned straight-set victories. 

Peterson fought valiantly after a 6-1 opening set loss at No. 4 versus Manes.  She came up just short in the second set, losing 7-5 as CSUP tied the match at four.

Freshman Kayla Rochin lost the first set 7-6 (10-8) at No. 6 and fell 6-4 in the second set to Ciera Frankmore.

The Jackets return home to prepare for a couple of non-conference matches Mar. 18-19, in Bismarck, N.D., on the campus of the University of Mary.  MSUB will face Mary and Northern State University.
