COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Montana State Billings women's tennis team dropped a pair of 5-4 decisions to Colorado Christian and Colorado College Saturday.  With the losses, the Yellowjackets fell to 3-6 on the year and 0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Yellowjackets got off to a good start in doubles versus Colorado College as they won two of the three doubles matches in convincing fashion for a 2-1 lead.  At No. 1, the tandem of sophomore Kim Karlson and senior Rikki Peach won 8-2, while graduate Maria Peterson and junior Johnna Beatty won at No. 2, 8-5.  The freshmen duo of Kayla Rochin and Jane Probst lost 8-1 at No. 3

In singles, the Jackets lost four of six matches with three in straight sets.  Rochin lost the decisive match at No. 6 lost 7-5 in the third set to Sarah Bocker.  Rochin did a great job of battling back after losing the first set 6-2 even the match with a 6-4 second set win. 

Peach Peterson earned victories at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, for the Jackets.  Peach downed Jordan Evans 7-5, 7-6(4), while Peterson battled back from a first set loss (4-6), to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-3. 

In the conference opener versus Colorado Christian, the Cougars took the early lead in doubles 2-1.  The tandem of Peterson and Beatty won 8-5 at No. 2, while both No. 1 and No. 3 duos for the Jackets lost in tie-breakers.

The bottom half of the Yellowjacket singles lineup came up big as Peterson won in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) at No. 4, while Probst won at No. 5 in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) and Rochin also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Tie-breaker losses at Nos. 2 and 3 proved costly as Peach lost 7-5 7-6(6) at No. 2 and Beatty lost 7-6(4), 6-3 at No. 3 as the Jackets lost the match 5-4.

The Yellowjackets travel to Colorado State-Pueblo for a match on Sunday, before returning to Billings.
