Big Home Weekend Ahead for Yellowjacket Women

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The biggest home weekend of the season awaits the Montana State Billings women's soccer team this week as they host visiting Central Washington on Thursday (3:30 pm) and No.13 Seattle Pacific on Saturday (1 pm) in the Make-A-Wish match.
 
The Yellowjackets enter the weekend with a 9-2-4 record overall and currently sit third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with a 6-1-4 record after earning a 0-0 draw with Western Washington and a 2-1 victory over Simon Fraser last week.
 
MSUB is ranked 10th in this week's NCAA west region poll, moving into the rankings after being outside the top-10 last week. The Yellowjackets are also ranked 10th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America west region poll.
 
The Yellowjackets scored a pair of goals in the final 89 minutes as they combined with Simon Fraser to score three goals in the closing minute and a half to take a 2-1 victory out of Canada.
 
Junior Jaucelyn Richter leads the way for the Jackets after scoring her eighth goal of the season against Simon Fraser, adding three assists to her season total. Richter, who has 19 points, ranks just one point ahead of sophomore Heidi Greenback who has 18 points after six goals and three assists.
 
The Yellowjackets have now scored 27 goals this year, while surrendering just 10. The defense has helped preserve six shutouts as senior keeper Danielle Gordon has a 0.63 goals against average and a .839 saves percentage with 52 saves.
 
Gordon is coming off a 12 save performance against Western Washington, which ranked third all-time in the GNAC for most saves in scoreless draw.
 
Central Washington enters the week at 8-3-4 on the season and is 7-2-2 in the conference and just one point ahead of the Yellowjackets for second place in the league. The Wildcats are coming off a pair of back-to-back wins over Western Oregon (2-1) and Saint Martin's (3-0) a week ago.
 
Carson McKole leads CWU with eight goals and three assists this season, while Amy Pate is second in scoring with four goals and two assists for her 10 points.
 
The Wildcats have outscored opponents 22-15 this season despite being outshot in shots on goal .415-.397. Keeper Kori Butterfield has recorded a 5-3-3 record this season with a .819 save percentage and a 1.19 goals against average.
 
Seattle Pacific enters the week as the No.13 ranked team in the NSCAA national poll and are second in the west region poll, while being ranked third in NCAA west region poll.
 
The Falcons will play at Northwest Nazarene on Thursday and, with a win, will wrap up another GNAC title and ninth consecutive berth into the NCAA tournament.
 
SPU has a pair of eight-goal scorers in junior Megan Lindsay and sophomore Kellie Zakrzewski. Lindsay leads the team with 21 points after adding five assists to her goal total, while Zakrzewski has three assists to add to her goal count. Kelsey Jenkins leads the team with a blistering eight assists, totaling 12 points after three goals.
 
Falcon keeper Natalie Harold is 9-2-0 on the season with a 0.62 goals against average and 25 saves this season.
 
Saturday's match at Yellowjacket Field has been designated as this year's Make-A-Wish game. For the second consecutive season the Yellowjacket women are teaming up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to raise money for the program that grants wishes to children who have life-threatening medical conditions.
 
Make-A-Wish stars can be purchased at the MSUB athletics department or at the game for $1. Raffle tickets will also be on sale at Saturday's match for a Yellowjacket Prize Pack and two lift tickets to Red Lodge ski resort.
