Box Score

GOLDEN, Colo. – A late second half goal by Jennifer Larsen (Mesa, AZ) allowed the Montana State Billings women's soccer team to stay unbeaten, earning a 1-1 tie with the Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon. With the tie, MSUB improves to 3-0-1 on the season, while CSM moves to 1-1-2 on the year.

“Today was a great college soccer match between two good teams,” said head coach Don Trentham. “Again we gave up a bad early goal, but we continued to create opportunities for ourselves and never gave up. We weren't able to really do much in the overtime periods because I think we had chased so hard to get the equalizer, but the team did a great job to earn a hard fought draw with a talented team. It's nice to finish our non-conference schedule unbeaten and head into an always competitive conference schedule with some momentum.”

Larsen's goal, her third of the season, came in the 85th minute when Whitney Siler (Monroe, WA) served the ball off a corner kick and into the box where it found Larsen. The ball ricocheted off her head and into the back of the net past Briana Schulze for the equalizer. Siler's assist was her third of the year.

The Yellowjackets played much of the match down 1-0 after Danielle Hering served a free kick from midfield into the box and found the head of Erin Onat. Onat was able to flick the ball past Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) in the 11th minute to give CSM the early lead.

The Orediggers were able to stay on top of the Yellowjackets for much of the half, holding the Jackets to just one shot, while testing MSUB with seven in the half.

As the second half began, MSUB found more opportunities, taking three shots in the half, while shutting down the Orediggers who were unable to get a shot off.

After Larsen's goal sent the game into overtime, neither team was able to get a shot off in the first overtime, but CSM outshot the Jackets in the second overtime, 5-1.

The Orediggers had a chance to win it in the 108th minute, but a shot by Megan Woodworth hit the left post to keep the game tied.

In her first career start at goal for the Yellowjackets, Grandke-Bawab made three saves to improve her record to 1-0-1 on the year.

For the game, there were 18 corner kicks taken, nine by both teams. The Jackets were outshot 12-5 for the match and had just four fouls called against them.

The Yellowjackets return to the pitch this Thursday, Sept. 16, as they travel to Seattle to open Great Northwest Athletic Conference play against GNAC favorite, Seattle Pacific. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. at Interbay Stadium.
