DAKOTA DUNES, SD – After a two hour delay because of frost on the course, the men's golf West Regional completed first round play Monday afternoon at the Dakota Dunes Country Club. Montana State-Billings freshman
Nicholas Larson is in the middle of the pack after a 12-over 84 on the par-72, 7,165-yard course left him in a tie for 33
rd place. Larson is competing as an individual and is the first Yellowjacket to qualify for a regional tournament in the program's three year history.
Larson opened play on the back nine Monday, starting with a birdie on the par-4 tenth hole. He followed with a bogey and a par on the next two holes before a triple-bogey seven bit him on No. 13. He finished the first nine holes with a 5-over 41 after carding four pars, three bogeys, a birdie and a triple.
Larson's second nine started with a double bogey on No. 1, dropping him to seven-over. After back-to-back pars, a stretch of three straight bogeys knocked him down to 10-over. He finished the first round with two more pars and a double bogey.
The tournament's individual leader is Andy Moren of Cal State-Stanislaus who shot a 1-over 73 as no player shot under par for the round. Play continues Tuesday and Wednesday at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.
