BILLINGS, MT – The Billings Collegiate Cup ended Tuesday at The Briarwood Golf Club with Rocky Mountain College as the overall winner. The men of Rocky earned the cup with a 16.5-12.5 win over the Yellowjacket men's team.  The Lady Jackets earned one additional team point, falling 19-2 to Rocky.

"The men were so close in this competition," said head coach Roger Burckley.  "Bryan won his matchup by going all 18-holes and the rest of the guys played tough.  We just came up short as a team but I am real proud of them."

"The women's team played well today," added Burckley.  "Rocky is a strong NAIA school as both Boo and Griffith are All-Americans.  Halley won her match up today and the team's overall play will give them confidence going into their next tournament."

Halley Montalban (Fr., Billings, MT) earned a team point in her match winning 4-and-3 over Rocky's Emily Jewett.  Nicole Salsbery (Fr., Malta, MT) nearly took her match, falling three-and-one to the Bears' Ashley Griffith.
The Yellowjacket men needed to win six of seven matches on Tuesday to take the cup.  Five of the seven matches were a toss up for who would earn the point.  Chris Haas (Jr., Bozeman, MT) downed Kelbi Lee of Rocky, 2-up.  Jason Kinsey (Fr., Glendive, MT) and Broc Criswell played all 18-holes ending with the point halved.  Earning a tight point for the Yellowjackets was Bryan Barhelmas (Sr., Condon, MT) winning 1-up over Battlin' Bear Vic Meyers.

"It is great to have the opportunity to play our cross-town rivals in a friendly game of golf," said Burckley.  "It creates a good atmosphere for both the program and the community."

The Yellowjacket men will compete April 10-12 in Turlock, California at the Cal-State Stanislaus tournament, while the Lady Jackets head to Grand Junction, Colorado April 10-12 for the Mesa State Invitational.
