BISMARCK, N.D. – The Montana State University Billings men's and women's cross country teams would compete in their second meets of the season on Friday, taking part in the Marauders Home Opener hosted by University of Mary.
Both Yellowjacket teams would place in third overall in the meet, with the men taking 86 points and taking third out of a lineup of seven teams in an 8K race, while the women ranked third out of five teams in a 6K race, finishing with 97 points.
For the men,
Logan Milek would finish as the teams fastest runner for the second straight meet, with the freshman finishing in eighth overall with a time of 25:47.4. Milek's time would rank second highest of all non-DI competitors at the meet, cementing his place as one of the fastest freshmen in the conference this season, with his time ranking 6
th fastest this season on the GNAC Performance List.
Fellow freshman
Jimmy Reed would finish strong as well in his first collegiate 8K, finishing with a time of 26:55.5, placing him in 17
th at the meet.
Mason Gregoire and
Donald Voetberg would pack together to place 31
st and 32
nd respectively, finishing with times of 28:20.4 and 28:21.4. Another pair of consecutive finishers would cross the finish line next for the Yellowjackets, with
Bruce Reed rounding out MSUB's point finishers with a PR time of 28:42.6 to take 37
th, and
John Achter finishing just behind him in 38
th, hitting a PR as well with a time of 28.47.4.
The Yellowjacket men would see their lineup rounded out by
Will Hyatt, who placed 41
st with a time of 28:58.6,
Ben Carleski who ran a time of 30:47.3 to place 46
th, and
Alex Benner, who placed 50
th with a time of 31:15.5.
For the MSUB women,
Ally Coey would take the top spot amongst all Yellowjacket racers, placing 29
th with a mark of 24:36.9. She would finish narrowly ahead of
Chloe Shennum, who would place 30
th with a time of 24:38.4. Running her first collegiate 6K,
Della Sebring would finish strong in 36
th with a time of 25:25.2, while
Gracyn Rock would finish in 39
th, crossing the finish line with a time of 26:23.9.
Kinley Bruno would round out MSUB's top five finishers with a 41
st place finish of 26:45.0.
MSUB's next two finishers would be
Adison Carlson in 43
rd and
Sara McCabe in 44
th, finishing with times of 27:18.9 and 27:29.2 respectively.
Claire Dayton would finish 48
th with a time of 28:47.2,
Angela Russo would place 50
th with a time of 29:05.2, and
Madi Gordon would place 53
rd with a time of 29:53.4.
THE BUZZ: Milek and Coey were named the Athletes of the Meet.
UP NEXT: The Yellowjackets will take a week off before returning to competition on Thursday, September 24 as they compete in the Butte Invite, hosted by Montana Tech at Highland View Golf Course.
