NAMPA, Idaho – The Montana State University Billings track and field teams put together another successful meet at the NNU Open hosted by Northwest Nazarene, with the program's athletes putting up a handful of top marks and PR's.
Highlighting the finishes on the day for MSUB was a school record result in the women's 4x100 relay team consisting of
Bella Klein,
Mya Richardson,
Kyanna Jarvis, and
Katelyn Hamill. The foursome finished in third place at the meet with a time of 48.86, beating the previous MSUB school record time of 48.98 set at last season's GNAC Championships. Three of the four members of last season's record-breaking crew in Klein, Richardson, and Hamill carried over to this year's group too.
MSUB's sprinters stood out on both sides during the meet, apart from the school record in the 4x100. Richardson would also collect a third-place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.45, and sixth in the 200m with a time of 25.95. Maddy Lloyd would collect a PR in the 200m behind Richardson, finishing in eighth with a mark of 26.52. Also collecting a PR on the day were
Kyanna Jarvis, who finished in fourth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.65. Meanwhile, Klein and Severson would each grab fifth place finishes, with Klein running a 59.42 in the 400m, and Severson running a 2:28.73 in the 800m.
On the men's side,
JayCee Herbert would lead the way with a PR in the 100m, sprinting to a time of 10.56 to take control of first place at the meet. Herbert's time would rank second in the GNAC this season, and move him to .09 seconds of matching Sam Zook's school record mark. Behind him in the 100m, three other Yellowjackets would also set PR's, with Ben Ralston finishing in sixth with a time of 10.77,
Mason Dezember coming in seventh with a time of 10.89, and
Ryen Sanders running a 11.21 to come in 13
th place. Dezember would also finish as MSUB's top finisher in the 200m, running a time of 22.45 to finish in sixth place, while
Kaleb Scott would lead MSUB's competitors in the 400m, finishing eighth with a time of 51.65. In the 4x100 relay, the men's team consisting of Dezember, Herbert, Sanders, and Ralston would top the competition with a mark of 42.06, while the 4x400 relay squad consisting of Ralston, Herbet, Scott, and
Brock Grossman ran a time of 3:21.96.
In the distance events,
Cecily Eagleton would star for the 'Jackets, setting PRs and collecting first place finishes in both the 3000m steeplechase and the 5000m at the meet. Eagleton would start things off in the 5000, with a time of 18.59.26, before running a time of 11:36.59 in the steeplechase. Also setting PR's at the meet would be
Gabi Becker in both events, who would run a 19:43.46 in the 5000m, and a 12:24.92 in the 3000m steeplechase, and
Toree Manning in the steeplechase with a time of 12:40.72. On the men's side,
Will Hyatt would finish in second place in the 10000m with a mark of 34:44.57, while
Wyatt May ran a time of 10:10.37 in the 300m steeplechase to come in third place.
Lennon Davis would top MSUB's racers in the 800m with a 12
th place finish of 2:01.08, and Jon Stene would run a PR time of 4:39.43 in the 1500m.
In the jumps,
Payton Kokot would lead the Yellowjacket men in the high jump, clearing 1.95m (6' 4.75") on his way to setting a PR, and finishing both fourth at the meet, and putting in the fourth best jump in the conference this season.
Goodness Okere would also PR in the high jump after clearing 1.80m (5' 10.75"), coming in seventh place at the meet. The freshman would also finish in fifth place at the triple jump, leaping 12.82m (42' 0.75"). For the women,
Kyanna Jarvis would lead MSUB in both the high jump and long jump, earning a mark of 1.55m (5' 1") in the high, and 4.79m (15' 8.75") in the long, while
Alyssa Sanchez would finish fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.06m (33' .25").
For the throws,
Isaac Perkins would grab the 'Jackets top finish in the hammer throw, collecting a mark of 52.20m (171' 3") to finish in second place.
Cort Sandefur would finish right behind him in third place, finishing with a best throw of 48.00m (157' 6"). Perkins would finish as the 'Jackets top performer in the shot put with a mark of 14.35m (47' 1"), while Sandefur would finish as MSUB's top athlete in the discus, finishing in fifth place with a mark of 42.36m (139' 0").
Kody Cooper would collect a second-place finish in the javelin, throwing a best mark of 46.63m (153' 0"), while
Braydon Tucker would grab fourth place finish with a mark of 44.77m (146' 10"). On the women's team,
Hannah Cooper would be MSUB's top finisher in all four throwing events at the meet. Cooper would earn her best finishes in the discus and hammer throw, finishing in third in both events with a 41.02m (134' 7") in the discus, and 50.07m (164' 3") in the hammer. She would also grab a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.29m (37' 0.5"), and a sixth-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 33.23m (109' 0"). Behind her,
Jaida Green would finish sixth in the shot put with a best throw of 11.21m (36' 9.5"), and seventh place in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.37m (145' 7").
THE BUZZ: Eagleton and Herbert were named Intermountain Health Athletes of the Meet.
