ANCHORAGE, Alask. – The Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket Volleyball team (2-13) took on the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves (9-9) for a GNAC conference matchup. The 'Jackets battled on the road, but the Seawolves defended their home turf and took the match 3-1 (25-15, 25-13, 25-15).
The Seawolves offense came out hot in the first set. Anchorage outhit the 'Jackets 15 kills to 4 and hit over .300 as a team. The Yellowjackets tried to stay in the set behind their defense and efficient serves but dropped the set 25-15 in favor of the Seawolves.
The Seawolves again were hot out of the gate with an aggressive offense. They were successful all night on both pins and efficient from the middle as well. For the 'Jackets,
Bailey Nichols had herself a great set with 4 kills and a pair of digs. Senior
Paiten Langston also looked solid defensively having a solo block, and a block assist in the set. Ultimately the 'Jackets dropped the set 25-13 in favor of Anchorage.
The Seawolves were impressive in the third set as well, hitting over .400 as a team and totaling 5 service aces. The aggressive Anchorage offense was hard to stop even with the 'Jackets totaling 3 blocks, and 15 digs by junior libero
Christine Funk throughout just three sets. The Seawolves would go on to take the third set 25-15 and win the match 3-0.
THE BUZZ: Bailey Nichols is your Intermountain Health Player of the Game. Nichols tallied 8 kills on the night while swinging .200.
