FAIRBANKS, Alas.- The Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket Volleyball team (2-14) took on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks (8-11). Fairbanks was able to take down the 'Jackets 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-17).
The Nanooks started out hot on offense in the first set hitting .271 as a team with 17 kills. Freshman
Bailey Nichols let the way for the 'Jackets tallying 5 kills in the set.
Christine Funk had a statistical anomaly with 13 digs in just one single set. After the back-and-forth battle, Fairbanks would ultimately take the set 25-17.
Statistically, the Nanooks were almost flawless in the second set. They had three service aces, five total blocks, and hit .435 as a team. The 'Jackets battled but fell 25-11.
The third set was hopeful as the 'Jackets got up to an early 16-12 lead. Unfortunately, the Nanooks went on a 13-1 run to take the set 25-17 and edge the Yellowjackets 3-0.
THE BUZZ: Christine Funk is your Intermountain Health Player of the Game. Funk had 13 digs in the first set and from stats that are available to us, it is an MSUB record. She ultimately totaled 19 digs in the match and averaged 6.3 digs per set.
