The Starters
Jaucelyn Richter – Team Captain, Player of the Decadeall-decaderichter
Position: Forward
Hometown: Billings, Montana
Playing Years: 2009-2012 (4 seasons)

Feature Story: Former Senior Standout Has Also Turned Into One Of MSUB's Best (Joe Kusek/Billings Gazette - Oct. 23, 2012)

Captaining the women's soccer all-decade squad is one of the top players not only in MSUB but in Great Northwest Athletic Conference history. Richter scored 28 goals and added 24 assists throughout her brilliant four-year career with the 'Jackets, with her 80 total points ranking No. 2 in school history behind only Hall of Famer Ally Stroup who played from 2003-06 (109 points). Richter's point total also holds up as No. 17 in GNAC history, while her 28 goals are fifth most in school history.

Richter led the Yellowjackets to their only NCAA regional appearance of the decade, helping the team go 13-6-1 as a sophomore in 2010. Helping the team to perhaps its biggest win of the 2010s, Richter played 86 minutes in MSUB's 1-0 NCAA first-round victory over Cal State Los Angeles on Nov. 11, 2010 in Seattle.

Richter's career was special from the start, as she earned GNAC Freshman of the Year accolades after a 10-goal performance as a freshman in 2009. She was a three-time, first-team all-conference pick – one of just 20 players in the 20-year history of the conference to make the league's top team three times. Richter was also a first-team all-region selection during her junior season in 2011, after leading the GNAC with 11 goals and contributing five assists. Richter also holds the all-time GNAC record for shots per game with 3.95.

The Billings Senior High School graduate was also a standout in the classroom, where she was a two-time academic all-conference and an academic all-region pick.

Richter on her career: "I am most proud to have grown as a person through soccer. From the beginning of my career to the end, it is amazing how much I changed and how much of that is credited to my coaches, teammates, mentors, family, and staff."

Don Trentham (Richter's Head Coach 2009-2010): "Jaucelyn was the player every team we played against would focus on in our attack. A lot of our wins and results we had in those two years were attributed to having her in the attack, and she made the players around her better. It is a well-deserved honor for her to receive player of the decade, because of how much she meant to the team in her four years."

Wojtek Krakowiak (Richter's Assistant Coach 2010; Head Coach 2011-2012): "Jaucelyn's attitude said it all. A fierce competitor who was driven to win every small-sided game in training. Her passion, determination, and grit made her one of the greatest players in GNAC history. She was a fearless forward who had the drive to turn every game into a victory. Jaucelyn was a vocal leader who brought out the best qualities of her teammates."

Stephen Cavallo (Current MSUB Head Coach): "When I arrived in 2014, you still heard Jaucelyn's name come up often about the impact she made on the program and left behind. She and Jen Larsen were always viewed as the gold standard of what it meant to be a women's soccer player here."

Where is she now? Richter's permanent residence is in Shelby, Montana, and she works as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer and Quartermaster Officer in the Montana National Guard. She is currently serving in the military overseas in Iraq.

Heidi Greenbackall-decadegreenback
Position: Forward
Hometown: Woodinville, Washington
Playing Years: 2010-2013 (4 seasons)

Where Richter's name litters the MSUB record books, Greenback's is close beside as the two formed the most lethal one-two offensive duo in the history of the women's soccer program. Greenback is No. 4 in MSUB history with 72 points, as she scored 29 goals and added 14 assists in her four-year career in the Navy and Gold. Greenback's 29 goals are fourth-most in school history, and she currently ranks No. 23 in GNAC history in career points.

Greenback led the team in goals and points in three of her four seasons, and the only year she didn't (2011) she led the team in assists with nine. She also finished with seven goals that season, as she and Richter helped MSUB average 1.94 goals per game to rank second in the conference offensively.

Her 2010 season as a freshman owns a bit of GNAC history, as she led the team in goals with seven despite starting just 2 of 20 games and playing just 805 minutes for an average of 40.3 minutes per game. Over the 10 years in the decade, only seven players led or co-led their team in goals scored while starting less than 50 percent of their team's games. Among those seven, only Greenback and Makinzie Packwood of Central Washington (2018) played in 100 percent of their team's games throughout the year. Greenback further stands out among that group with her seven goals being the most of any of those players who led their respective teams, and no one else on that list had more than four goals in their given year.

GNAC Women's Soccer Players To Lead Team In Scoring While Starting Less Than 50% of Team Games (2010-2019)
Last Name First Name Team Season Goals Led Team? Games Team Games % of Team Games Starts
Greenback Heidi MSUB 2010 7 Yes 20 20 100% 2
Austin Marina WOU 2011 3 Tied 11 18 61% 8
McFaul Abby SMU 2012 4 Yes 7 18 39% 4

Packwood Makinzie CWU 2018 4 Tied 17 17 100% 8
Lathum Teanna CWU 2019 4 Yes 15 18 83% 5

Greenback's efficiency in 2010 equated to one goal scored for every 115 minutes spent on the pitch. She was a two-time second-team and two-time third-team all-region selection, while earning second-team all-GNAC honors three times in her career. She was also a two-time academic all-conference pick, and her 74 games played are 10th most in program history.

Greenback on her MSUB career: "As a forward you always want to produce points, and I am proud I was able to help get wins. But the best moments and memories usually came outside of scoring: Like my teammates pushing me and ultimately holding me up after the YBMI in the bubble, and standing up on top of the old log benches screaming for every play closing out the game against NNU when the NCAA tournament was on the line."

Don Trentham (Greenback's Head Coach in 2010): "I saw a lot of potential in Heidi, and she had a very good freshman year playing a great role off the bench. She was a great finisher, and she was very efficient with her chances. When she got into the box, you could count on her scoring goals for you."

Wojtek Krakowiak (Greenback's Assistant Coach 2010; Head Coach 2011-2013): "Heidi was a true Number 9 who knew how to find herself in dangerous attacking situations and 'simply' just score goals – one of the toughest tasks in the game. She read and anticipated the game exceptionally well, and took advantage of any given situation to put the ball in the net, while making it look insanely easy."

Stephen Cavallo (Current MSUB Head Coach): "Heidi was super reliable, always a great finisher, and she knew how to put the ball in the net. She was a good reader of the game, and knew where to be in the box."

Where is she now? Greenback works at Accounting & Tax Specialists in Helena, and in her free time she coaches for HYSA Arsenal and trains players in the area.

The Reserves

Alisa all-decadesagdahlSagdahl
Position: Forward
Hometown: Edmonds, Washington
Playing Years: 2012-2014 (3 seasons)

The offensive passing of the torch went from the feet of Richter to Sagdahl, who was a freshman in 2012 and played in all 20 games while scoring three goals. She parlayed that into a solid three-year career, finishing tied for No. 10 in MSUB history with 13 goals scored. Sagdahl also chipped in 11 assists, to finish with 37 total points.

Her finest campaign was her junior year in 2014, when she led the team in goals (7), assists (5), and points (19) to help elevate the squad into the GNAC tournament. Sagdahl twice earned all-conference accolades, including a first-team nod in her final campaign in 2014.

Two of Sagdahl's biggest goals came in back-to-back games in 2014, the first of which was an 86th-minute strike to give MSUB a 2-1 road win over Central Washington on Oct. 11. Her next time out at Western Washington the following week, Sagdahl scored a penalty kick in the 37th minute that appeared it might hold up as the game-winner. The nationally-ranked Vikings wiggled away with a win however, equalizing with just three minutes left in regulation before an overtime winner.

Stephen Cavallo (Sagdahl's Assistant Coach 2014): "She was the most smooth, creative, outside-the-box thinker. She stepped up in big moments, and she scored some really big goals in her career here."

Jessica Spangall-decadespang
Position: Forward
Hometown: Billings, Montana
Playing Years: 2014-2017 (4 seasons)

Feature Story: Spang A Gamer In Famed Career With Hometown 'Jackets

Another four-year starter at the forward position, Spang scored 10 goals and added nine assists for 29 points throughout a steady career at her hometown university. Spang's top effort came during her sophomore year in 2015, when she scored five goals and had team highs of five assists and 15 points. Spang was one of just four players in the GNAC that season to have at least five goals and five assists (Gabriela Pelogi, Western Washington, 10 goals, 5 assists; Laura Moore, Seattle Pacific, 6 goals, 5 assists; Whitney Lowe, Central Washington, 5 goals, 5 assists).

Spang helped MSUB to a pair of GNAC tournament appearances during her career, and was an honorable mention all-conference selection after her strong 2015 campaign. She also twice earned GNAC Player of the Week, and was a three-time academic all-GNAC selection in the classroom. Spang's four-career game-winning goals are tied for ninth-most in school history.

Spang on competing for her hometown team: "Each year was a very different experience. I remember how welcoming the team was when I was a freshman. All four years were about overcoming some sort of adversity, but having those relationships and the chemistry made it worth the time and dedication."

Stephen Cavallo (Spang's Assistant Coach 2014-2015, Head Coach 2016-2017): "She was another stalwart player in the team, playing forward and attacking mid for us. She was able to score goals, but also to provide for her teammates. Spang is a fantastic role model, and she helped show local soccer players what it took to play at our level. Having the support of her family at every single game was huge. They always went above and beyond to make our entire team feel like it was part of their family."

Where is she now? Spang currently resides in Billings, where she is a first grade teacher for Billings School District 2.

Honorable Mention

Jordan Devotojordandevoto
Position: Forward
Hometown: Wilsall, Montana
Playing Years: 2015-2018 (4 seasons)

Feature Story: The Inspirational Progression Of Jordan Devoto

While never a team leader statistically, Devoto earned her way onto the all-decade honorable mention list for what she represented throughout a four-year career with the 'Jackets. As a freshman in 2015, Devoto saw 15 minutes of playing time. Undeterred by the lack of time on the pitch, Devoto came back to start 13 of 17 games as a sophomore, and went on to start all 34 games of her junior and senior seasons. She started 43 consecutive games to close her career.

By 2018 Devoto was not only a regular in the lineup, but was captaining the squad – a position she earned through an unmatched work ethic. Devoto scored six goals and added two assists for 14 points throughout her career as a Yellowjacket. She was a three-time academic all-conference selection and graduated with a 3.97 grade point average while studying health and wellness.

Upon completing her career in the fall of 2018, Devoto continued to serve her team as a volunteer assistant coach for one season.

Stephen Cavallo (Devoto's Assistant Coach 2015; Head Coach 2016-2018, Co-Coach 2019): "It is hard to measure in words Jordan Devoto's impact on our program. Her story is remarkable. She is the most passionate, positive, energetic teammate anyone could ever ask for. She is the definition of hard work, never giving up, and battling through all obstacles. She leaves an incredible impact on anyone she comes across."
