The Starter
Tom Lohmann
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Berlin, Germany
Playing Years: 2014-2017 (4 seasons)
Simply put, Lohmann was one of the top goalkeepers in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference during the 2010s. His 204 saves are the most in school history, and that mark stands out as his top achievement throughout a record book that is littered with his name. Lohmann finished his career tied for third with 10 shutouts, and was a two-time all-conference shot stopper throughout his career.
Lohmann owns the fourth-best single-season goals-against average of 1.16 in 2015, as well as the ninth-best at 1.46 in 2014. His 73 saves in 2014 were the eighth-most in school single-season history, and he also twice ranks in the top-10 for shutouts in a season. Overall in his career Lohmann played in 57 matches, while holding a 1.47 goals-against average and helping his teams to a 25-23-7 winning record throughout his tenure.
Not only was Lohmann a premier shot-stopper, but he played an equally important role with his feet distributing the ball out of the back. His skill in this area showed both within the team's 'build-from-the-back' short passing philosophy, as well as his deft accuracy on long balls. Lohmann provided three assists throughout his career, evidence of his uncanny ability to place a punt on a pin 70 yards down the pitch for an eager forward to run onto.
In addition to his all-conference accolades, Lohmann was twice named academic all-GNAC, was a four-time GNAC Player of the Week, and earned Rimrock Classic all-tournament honors three times including twice being named the Defensive MVP.
Lohmann overcame a season-ending injury four games into the 2016 campaign, to bounce back and finish with a second-team all-GNAC season as a senior in 2017. Upon completing his playing career, Lohmann joined the coaching staff as an assistant for two seasons from 2018-2019.
Lohmann reflecting on his MSUB career: "I learned to be humble, to work hard and be "blue collar" – that nothing is given to you in life. We always wanted to be successful "the right way" and to remember that there is so much more in life than just soccer. I learned to put things into perspective, and to always put people first while still striving for the best possible outcome. I learned too many things to mention all of them here, but I will forever be a Yellowjacket wherever life takes me."
Thomas Chameraud (Lohmann's Assistant Coach 2014-2017, Co-Coach 2018-2019): "Great goalkeeper, hard worker, and very coachable. He understands the game well and was a great coach with us as well."
Alex Balog (Lohmann's Head Coach 2014-2017, Co-Coach 2018): "One of my favorite players to wear MSUB colors. True professional, and someone who still bleeds blue and gold. Without a doubt the best goalkeeper to play at MSUB, but also someone who truly represents what MSUB soccer stands for. Someone who wants to be a quality member of his community, and who sees the value in hard work."
Where is he now? Lohmann resides in his home of Berlin, Germany, where he is involved with the scouting, recruiting, and structure of the roster in the management at Berliner AK club soccer team.
The Reserve
Eoin Hurley
Position: Goalkeeper
Hometown: Dublin, Ireland
Playing Years: 2011-2013 (3 seasons)
Hurley started in net for three seasons for the Yellowjackets, racking up 177 saves to rank No. 3 in school history. His crowning achievement was recording a dozen shutouts over his three years, a mark that remains No. 1 in the record books to this day.
Hurley started all 18 matches during MSUB's top season of the decade in 2012, as he guided the team to an 11-5-2 record from the back. His 1.00 goals-against average that year was the second-lowest in MSUB history, while he came away with 52 saves. The following year in 2013, he made 76 saves to rank No. 6 in MSUB single-season history, and he earned honorable mention all-GNAC for the second straight year.
Hurley on his time at MSUB: "Deciding to attend MSUB as a soccer player was one of the best choices I have ever made. I cannot imagine I would have ever had such a good experience had I chose to attend a different school. I learned where my strengths lay, and I was able to emphasize them. I learned what my weaknesses were and was able to improve them, and I made mistakes and I learned from them. I was lucky to have great mentors at MSUB who helped me along the way."
Thomas Chameraud (Hurley's Teammate 2011-2012, Assistant Coach 2013): "Very good shot stopper, and definitely bailed us out in many games. Very vocal and very good at guiding his defense."
Alex Balog (Hurley's Assistant Coach 2011-2012, Head Coach 2013): "Eoin is someone who grew a lot during the later years of his career at MSUB, and someone who I think benefitted from his experience there in life in general greatly. Good shot stopper, very good distribution."
Dan McNally (Hurley's Head Coach 2011-2012): "An all-around good goalkeeper. On his best day, he was a top-quality goalkeeper at the NCAA D2 level."
Where is he now? Hurley currently resides in Evansville, Indiana where he is the assistant men's soccer coach at University of Evansville.
