SPEARFISH, South Dakota. – The Montana State University Billings track and field team turned in a solid overall performance while competing in Mryle Hanson Open Hosted by Black Hills State University.
Competing at BHS for the second weekend in a row, many young athletes showed improvement for the Yellowjackets building on the moment the team has heading into the Boise State University Nike Indoor Invitational next week.
"We saw some good things from out younger athletes and we are happy with their performances," said head coach Jon Woehl. "We are ready to go compete in a bigger meet in Nampa next week. Overall I am happy with our improvement and it's tough being on the road so much but I am proud of our team."
Freshmen
Connor McNeil threw a personal best 43'2.5" (13.27m) on his way to a top 15 finish (11
th overall).
Forrest Cross took home sixth place in the weight throw with a bomb of 49'10" (15.26m).
Ely Kraft also competed in the weight throw and finished in 14
th place with a throw 42'.8" (13.00m).
Freshmen
Nicholas Redgrave ran a personal best 2:06.30in the 800m good enough for a fourth place finish.
Rahkei Eyer took home second place honors in the 200m dash with a time of 23.10. Eyer also took fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.22.
Mason Schram won the 60m dash with a blazing time of 7.12.
Ase Ackerman finished in third place in the 3k with a time of 9:10.38.
Logan Straus ran well with a final time of 9:20.81 and right on his heels was teammate
Bryant Edgerton with a time of 9:21.27.
Madison Thompson finished in fifth place in the 60m dash with a time if 8.59. Thompson also recorded a personal best in the long jump with a bound of 4.94m good enough for fifth overall.
Miranda Livingston finished in eighth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:47.20. Teammate
Sierra Durbin took home fourth place with a time of 2:31.64.
Continuing her impressive indoor season, senior
Nikki Aiken took second in the 3K with a time of 11:08.12. Not far behind Aiken was
Kailee Stoppel with a time of 11:36.40.
MSUB's top thrower
Mariah May finished fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 38'1.25" (11.61m). May finished in eighth place in the shot put at 44'10.75" (14.01m).
Taylor Stringari finished in 11
th in the weight throw (10.65M) and 10
th in the shot (13.12m).
Arguably the most consistent athlete to finish in the top five every meet of indoor season for MSUB,
Brenna Beckett finished in second in both the 200m (27.34) and the long jump (5.24m).
Athlete of the Meet: Leading the way for the Men's sprints team,
Mason Schram is named the St. Vincent Healthcare Athlete of the week for his first place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.12.
WHATS NEXT: MSUB travels to Nampa, Idaho to compete in a division one meet, the Boise State University Nike Indoor Invitational.
