Rae Smart concluded her impressive freshman campaign on Saturday at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas, competing in both the shot put and javelin.
Smart's top finish would come in the javelin, where her mark of 43.96m (144' 3") placed her in 16
th place at the meet, high enough to qualify her for All-American Second Team honors. Smart previously earned a bronze medal at the GNAC Championships in javelin, and her season best mark of 45.77m (150' 2") is the MSUB school record in the event, along with holding the third best mark in the west region this season.
In the shot put, Smart placed 22
nd with a mark of 13.61m (44' 8"). She likewise previously earned a bronze medal at the GNAC Championships this season in the event, and threw a season best mark of 14.95m (49' 0.75"), setting the MSUB school record and placing second overall in the west region.
