BILLINGS, Mont. – After a hard fought battle with cancer, Montana State University Billings men's soccer freshman
Trevor Wildberger passed away late Tuesday evening.
Wildberger originally signed a letter of intent to become a goalkeeper with the Yellowjackets in February of 2014, before being diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma cancer. Health complications prevented Wildberger from joining the team for the 2014 season, but the Rocklin, Calif., native planned to begin his college career at MSUB at the start of the 2015 season.
"Trevor's passing is a devastating loss to his family, friends, and our program," commented MSUB head coach
Alex Balog. "From the moment we recruited Trevor, he bought into our philosophy and became an integral part of our MSUB men's soccer family. As Trevor's battle against cancer went along, his strength and belief in a positive outcome rubbed off on our student-athletes. Just like young
Sebastien Easton, Trevor has taught us to put things into perspective and not take anything for granted. It is something we will forever be grateful for. Our thoughts during these challenging times are with his family and friends."
"We are heartbroken by the news of Trevor's death," said MSUB director of athletics Krista Montague. "Our sincere thoughts go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone whose lives he touched. MSUB Athletics mourns Trevor's passing."
A moment of silence for Wildberger will be held prior to MSUB's exhibition match against Northwest College on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field. Wildberger was 19 years old.
