SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team dropped it's final match of the regular season, falling to Seattle Pacific University 3-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Concluding their 2024 season on the road in Washington, the Yellowjackets (6-6-6, 5-4-3 GNAC) and Falcons (8-6-4, 5-4-3 GNAC) would face off with final position on the line, with MSUB looking to take sole control of third place in the GNAC Standings. Instead, the Falcons would pull off the home win behind a trio of goals, forcing the 'Jackets to share third place in the standings with both the SPU, and Northwest Nazarene.
The match began with the hosts seeing the majority of chances, although the Yellowjackets would attempt the game's first shot on goal from
Rene Tello. But Seattle Pacific would open the scoring in the 27
th minute, with Raymundo Mendez putting the Falcons ahead. They would remain in the lead throughout the first half, despite a handful of promising looks from the 'Jackets, before doubling their advantage in the 58
th minute of the game on a goal from Lukas Shriner. The Yellowjackets would get one back, with
So Nagano scoring his team leading 11
th goal of the season, assisted by Tello, but it wouldn't be enough, as MSUB would concede one more goal to seal a 3-1 defeat.
MSUB finished with 15 total shots as a team, putting three on goal.
Matteo Bosch led all Yellowjackets with four attempts, putting one on goal, while Tello attempted three with one shot on goal. Nagano converted his lone chance of the game. Meanwhile,
Roddy Lewis and
Bjarne Fedkenhauer shot twice, and
Kolja Thomas,
Florian Senf, and
Sam Kemmer each attempted one look off target.
Fred Reiter finished with two saves in goal for MSUB.
