BOZEMAN, Mont. – It was a mixed results meet for the MSU Billings track and field teams in Bozeman at the Montana State University Open on Friday evening.
"You know we had some bright spots in some areas, but struggled in a couple of our events as well, so it was a mixed day for us in Bozeman," MSUB head track and field coach
Dave Coppock said.
Junior
Robert Peterson finished second in the men's mile in 4:16.18. With adjustments for track and altitude, that time is an NCAA Div. II national provisional qualifying mark.
"He had a really good race in the mile," Coppock continued. "He also ran the 3,000m today. He was a little tired for that race, but we are happy with his provisional mark in the mile."
Peterson finished fourth in the men's 3,000m race behind three MSU runners, crossing the tape in 8:54.53.
"We had good results from a couple of freshmen," Coppock said. "
Amanda Nichols is showing great improvement in the women's pole vault, and Dominque Holt, a new addition to the men's team, had a good first meet for us as well."
Nichols, a freshman from Billings, was fifth in the women's pole vault, completing a height of 3.35m (10-11.75). Holt placed third in the men's high jump with a height of 1.85m (6-00.75).
Freshman
Liam McKay contributed a top-5 finish for MSU Billings in the men's 800m run with a time of 2:02.05. In the men's triple jump,
Kail Pope, from Charlo, Mont., placed third with a jump of 12.17m (39-11.25).
COMING UP: In two weeks, Montana State University Billings travels to Pocatello, Idaho for the Mountain State Games hosted by Idaho State University.
