BILLINGS, Mont- Montana State University Billings Men's and Women's head Tennis coach, Lew Kosich has announced that he will retire his post as head coach effective on July 1st, 2014.
Kosich leaves MSUB with a combined overall record of 36-93 in four years, 24-39 on the men's side and 12-54 on the women's.
The best season was his first season in 2011 when he guided the women's team to a 5-13 record and the men's team to an 8-9 regular season finish. The men received an at large bid to the NCAA tournament after finishing second at the Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference Tournament.
The 2011 Men's team is the only Men's tennis team to reach the NCAA tournament in MSUB history. The team fell to RMAC rival Nebraska-Kearney 4-5 in the Central Region Final.
"It is with mixed feelings that I re-enter retirement at the end of June," Coach Kosich said. "I have had the good fortune to work with some outstanding coaches, staff, and athletes. It is however, time to move on to the next chapter. I have grandkids on the east coast, one of whom is in the Olympic Soccer development program. I look forward to having time to visit them frequently, and to see him play. Billings will continue to be home, so I plan to continue to be a supporter of Yellowjacket Athletics, and tennis in Montana."
"We would like to thank Coach Kosich for leading our tennis programs the past four years," Athletic Director Krista Montague. "We applaud his leadership and service and to MSU Billings and his contributions to the community are greatly appreciated. We wish him all the best and a very happy retirement."
The Athletics Department will hold a retirement party for Coach Kosich on June 30th at 2pm in the PE Building lobby. Coach Kosich's successor will be named soon.
