COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Having played at the No. 1 singles position all season long for the Montana State University Billings men's tennis team, sophomore
Santiago de la Rosa Mora has been rewarded for his five-win effort with a first-team all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection announced by the conference office Thursday.
"Santiago has been a fighter for us all year," said MSUB head coach
Becky King. "He is an amazing competitor for us at number one as a sophomore. He goes out on the court with so much energy and desire to win. He has been a pleasure to coach."
Representing a major constant for MSUB throughout the season, de la Rosa Mora collected a pair of RMAC victories at the toughest position in singles play and narrowly lost two other matches in playoff fashion.
Against Colorado State-Pueblo on April 4, de la Rosa Mora helped MSUB collect both of its points as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and helped his doubles team to a tough 8-6 victory.
In his final match of the season against Colorado Mesa, de la Rosa Mora was barely edged in a three-set thriller 6-4, 5-7, 0-1 (10-6).
Competing strong all season, de la Rosa Mora lost only five sets the entire spring by more than three points. A transfer from fellow RMAC school Colorado Christian, the 2014-15 season marked the first for de la Rosa Mora at MSUB.
Earning RMAC Player of the Year was Jordan Lyden of Colorado Mesa, whose coach Dan MacDonald was picked as the RMAC Coach of the Year. Calum Hayes of Metro State was the Freshman of the Year in the conference.
